Re: Looking for A PDA, Article Links Here
For that price range, you're looking at a very narrow window of a few discontinued Windows Mobile models from years ago. If that's not a problem, I'd say look for the Toshiba e740, e750, or e350; or the Casio E-200. Almost anything else with USB Host will be a lot more expensive.

Re: Looking for A PDA, Article Links Here
Thanks, Adama! That looks like about what I need. A question about the e740, etc. : When it's in the cradle like that, is it a host? Does it run USB devices?

I don't know if the e740 has a USB Host port built into the cradle, but it does have USB Host internally even without the cradle: you may simply need an additional cable to connect a standard USB plug to it.

Oh, wow. That *is* ideal. This is pretty much exactly what I need. I can describe the project further if you're interested. Either way, thanks for the help!

When the thing arrived, I found out that the "USB port" isn't. Any idea what it is?

Re: Looking for A PDA, Article Links Here
Looking for a PDA to come with me on a bike (bicycle) ride across the nation. I'd like it to do these things.
First I need it to access the internet via 802.11g.
Second I need some sort of GPS functionality. The GPS software must have a POI library that includes forest preserves, campgrounds, grocery stores, gas stations and the like. I must also be able to create a route somehow(need not be created on the PDA itself). The map base should be reasonably well detailed. I don't know if it is available, but aerial maps would be wonderful.
Thirdly, USB connectivity is needed. I'd like to be able to connect to an iPod or a USB flash drive, if possible.
Perhaps a regular PDA can be made WiFi capable with an accessory? Or made GPS capable with an accessory? Or both?
I run Windows XP, the PDA needs to run any version of Windows as I plan to write some software for it. It doesn't matter which flavor it is. I don't need a phone but I wouldn't mind if it was there. Price is not an issue at this point, I would just like to see what it would take to do this. I don't have and have never had a PDA.
