The following is a submitted "Palm success story" which I feel could be of use to people working with IR-lasers:

----------------------------------------------------------------
I do scientific work with infrared lasers in my own biotech startup company and I recently found my newly aquired Palm Zire71 to come in very handy during my experiments. I bought the Zire to replace my Handspring Prism, - I have to admit I could not stand for the build in camera; I knew though that the quality would not be comparable to my Canon IxusV2, but never the less... Well the Zire71 appearently lacks the infrared filter that is normally required in digital cameras. You get odd colours (black turns ou dirty brown etc.) but on the other hand you get some ekstra light for your photos, which in turn may be why it was left out by the designers. That extra light (the infrared light) is exactly what I want to see when I am aligning my mirrors and my lasers. The lasers I use are pretty powerfull and they can permanently damage your eyes, but YOU CAN'T SEE THEM. Well now - with the Zire71 I can use it as a "viewing card" and thus get a real time picture of where my laser beams are going.

...So use it or loose it, Tomas ;-)
