    Default A simple reading device

    Hello,

Nice site and a good source of info I'm finding here. Im still a little lost with PDA's here, what I would like is handheld device that I can use to read word documents/ reports or ebooks. I have some hefty reports at work in word doc format and pdf format that I would like to be able to read via a handheld device rather than my laptop. I keep seeing the palm TX mentioned but is it capable of handling pdf or word document files? Can these by easily convereted and downloaded to a PDA device?

    Thanks,

P.S I dont really care too much about music, wifi etc etc. Just a simple device to read documents is what I need.

    Yes.

Packaged with Documents to Go from DataViz, and PalmPDF can handle the PDF files a little better.

The TX is well suited with the larger screen realestate, and internal memory. If realy large files, can handle 4GB SD cards.

Welcome to Brighthand, Peter_H. Remember that the PDF experience on a small screen, although good enough, will probably never really be ideal and it is entirely dependent on a) how the original documents are formatted and b) which software you use.

Quite true. And, on that point, do not use Adobe's Palm app.

The most basic device is the Z22, but it's really limited and you have no memory card slot or wireless communications (IR excluded). I suggest the Tungsten E2 or the TX, both being excellent devices.
I dare you to check my blog.

    Thanks,

Just can't wait to get the thing. Ordered one off *bay uk from a guy in USA, massive saving on UK price even incl shipping costs. May take a week to ten days though, worth the wait I hope.

I must say the more I read on this forum the better its sounds. It could be really handy for watching movies when I go on my jollies (holidays). I only wanted it for reading books etc but the more I look into it the more versatile it sounds.

Am I correct in the assumption that it can run 'satnav' software?

    I use ereader, it's wonderful.

THe included Doc to go is great for word docs if you want to edit.

But to read, use a converter to create a pdb from the .doc, then use ereader or cspotrun (although that's pretty old)
