More Palm III Family Models
Geeky as it sounds, that Star Trek communicator flip-lid on the Palm III family is MUCH handier than the way the lids flip open on the Palm 5 and 50x models. I've not seen any new designs using the Palm III style chassis in a while, and I really hope it's not being put out to pasture.

The m1xx series has a similar type of flip-cover lids.
I doubt you will see any more III-series Palms, at least under the Palm brand name. For now, they are going with the m1xx and m50x form factors.
The HandEra 330 has kept the III-series form factor, and it is still compatible with III-series accessories.

I fear you are right, but...
The m10x chassis is really flimsy, comparitively.
I keep my IIIxe in my back jeans pocket.
That would destroy an m10x.

Well, you only asked about the flip cover!
Actually, m1xx's seem to be pretty durable - for one thing, the plastic screen won't break when stressed the way a III-series screen can. Anyway, if you're happy with your IIIxe, you should hang onto it until Palm releases the next generation of devices (probably sometime next year) - then there will likely be new form factors to choose from. And in the meantime, the TRGPro and HandEra 330 are good choices, depending on your needs.

Toss your IIIxe onto a concrete floor. Go ahead, I'll wait. :-)Originally posted by jmedway

I actually did this with a brand new m100 (ok, call me crazy, it wasn't my handheld! :-) -- thanks to the plastic screen and the cushioning of the snap-on cover, the machine survived totally intact. I'm pretty sure a III-series device would have been toast.
On a related note: I hate (*hate*) flip-up lids that don't swing all the way 'round. That's just too geeky for me -- I hate looking like Captain Kirk in public. Well, except for the leather boots and bell bottoms.
PS: I didn't throw it on purpose. Honest.
PPS: I was kidding about the bell bottoms. Honest.
