    Default Question about charging

    Hi everyone,

Palm did it again, they kept me interested. After considering the Axim x51v, I bought a TX, it just looks great and the features very competitive for the price.

After using a Z71 since the week it was released, I am happy to leave the crappy camera behind and gain WiFi.

I have not used it yet because I am currently charging it. It says on the instructions to charge it 3 hours. Is there any harm on charging it overnight?

Thanks in advance for the replies. I glad to be back at Brighthand's

Welcome back and congrats. You're going to love WiFi syncing.

I don't think there would be any real harm done. Don't forget to follow the upgrade directions so you don't install any incompatible system files and check your third party software against some threads here and with the T5 list over at palmfocus.com to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Hi! I'm not going to upgrade anything, I'm starting from scratch, (I will export/import my contacts.

When you say no real harm, I' guessing you mean nothing will happen or it's not good for the battery? I heard it was better to charge it longer than 3h, but I'm going for 9, is that too much?

    Thanks for the reply...

    Looking forward to Wifi indeed!!

I think Palm is more concerned that we get too excited with new devices and use before fully charging then complain about tiny battery life. I usually upgrade before projected lifecycle of unit/battery. I don't know enough technically about batteries to make an absolute statement but have not had problems leaving devices plugged in overnight (not every night though). BAB2000 has much more knowledge in this area; search on his recent posts.

Yeah you are right. I am quite excited, but since I have to received my Innopocket hardcase from ebay yet, I can't really use it as I always carry my palm in my front pocket... I'll endure the Z71 for a few more days until everything it ready, I will be patient this night. I'm guessing everyday charging is not a good idea then. Do you drain your battery before every charge?

Once your charge gets to 100%, your T|X will actually continue to trickle charge for an hour. There's 100%, and then there's 100%. If I leave the T|X charge overnight I can use it for about an hour (without WiFi or doing anything CPU intensive, of course) and it still says "100%" when I'm done.

You can't overcharge it. It has circuitry that will stop charging after a certain point. If anything, you should keep it on the charger and keep the battery as charged as possible as often as possible. These Li-Ions love to be charged.

Nope, no probelm. There's a circuit inside the Palm that will cut off or trickle charge once the battery has all it can take.

    I admire your self restraint.

LOL I admire my self restraint also, but my Z71's battery has a lifespan so short, that I promised myself I would take extra care of my new gadget. I still can't believe how awesome it looks, the color is nice, dark blue it looks very professional and study. I will leave it on charge all night and play with it tommorow!!

Can't wait to try the WiFi. Do you guys use it a lot?

I'm glad I waited and did not buy the life drive. The TX is everything I wanted (I think!) ;-)

I'm using it a lot right now, experimenting with using the web and e-mail on the TX, and for HotSyncs. I probably won't keep using it that much though -- the screen is just too small to be comfortable for most web sites, and without my keyboard, writing much just takes too long. I'll probably still read some e-mails on it, and I'll definitely continue using HotSync over it, but most of the time that's probably all.
