Looking for a glass backed digitizer
The last digitizer that I installed I purchased from directfix. It is working wonderfully. I recently bought a second T|X, it will be needing a digitizer replacement. directfix does not carry the digitizer at this time.
my options on ebay for a glassed backed digitizer are:
~ Usedpdaparts (USA)
~ TallPC (USA)
~ nextgenoic, bestoffer4yu (Hong Kong, China)
I had a Usedpdaparts digitizer before, it only lasted 1yr 8mo before it had dead spots. I am kinda leery going back to them (the original digitizer lasted almost 4yrs)
opinions?
Rick
PS: My kids (young adults) mercifully kid me about my T|X. They call it a DOS box, in other words, ancient. I said hey I like that "DOS Box". Think "Das Auto" from the recent VW ad. :-)Last edited by rhn; 11-18-2011 at 01:14 AM.

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
Usedpdaparts is no longer in business.
Although I didn't see digitizers listed for sale, try contacting Chris Short (MN, USA) at
PalmDr.com | Shortronics Inc.
I'm not familiar w/ either of the others on your list; a BH member, SyncRaven, has, in the past, said he performs repairs (I have no personal experience):

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
Thanks,
I sent Chris an email, will see if he can sell me one (or two). His site is more about repair services and accessories than selling internal components from what I can see.

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
You can still purchase glass digitizers from UsedPdaParts (Shawn Lux) on Ebay - search for "palm tx digitizer glass" and you will find it for $12 + shipping.

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
Yes, thanks. Does anyone know where either seller stands on what they're supplying? I know the source for the digitizers each sells varies over time, and at one point, I thought Shawn Lux was selling the 'better' digitizer and screen combo. (I think I'd like to buy a set for reserve.)

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
I hadn't realized Shawn was still doing a small parts business on Ebay. Last I had spoken to him his new job had kind of taken over. From what he told me, he and Chris had worked with a manufacturer to produce their own glass-backed digitizer to specs. I'm sure those are the ones Chris is using too, but it looks like Chris really is repair oriented, or at east does not advertise selling parts like digitizers and LCDs. Shawn seems to sell the digitizers, but no longer has parts otherwise. I would bet in either case, you are getting the same digitizer.
Frankly, Chris's prices for refurbs are so reasonable, if you want a backup, I would just buy the refurb.
I will add Shawn's ebay store to my TX help page as a source for glass digitizers.Hook's Stories

Re: Looking for a glass backed digitizer
Got an email back from Short Tronics
Chris sells digitizers for the DIY'ers. The quality has been improved since the earlier ones that were also sold by UsedPDAParts. Similar or better quality than the UK supplied digitizers that were once sold by DirectFix.Rick
