Thread: Still using TX?

Re: Still using TX?
I have several coworkers with Droids... can't stand that damn "droid" sound-bite they have...
Given a choice between a Droid and an Apple, then I'd likely take the Droid, but I don't plan on getting a smart phone for quite some time-- I prefer clamshell-type phones with phone-like features; my Sanyo SCP-3810 is only a year old and does its job just fine.
If I can get hands on a couple Galaxy's (to see whether I prefer a 4 or 5), it does look like the next step (or at least a lateral step) from the T|X-- a teeny bit more screen real-estate at a finer resolution, improved wifi capability (I could get rid of my dedicated .11b wifi hub) and bluetooth, added camera and radio. It seems like it will play all my music (.mp3 and .wma-- don't judge me!), and if Pimlical is the equal to DateBk6, then it's a matter of scraping up the money...
Likely better in the long run, as I won't have to repair/replace a new unit within a year and a half...
So, where's the bad news?

Re: Still using TX?
Just to note, Pimlical is not quite there yet. First, it will need its own database, which CESD is working on. The Android databases, particularly the calendar one, is a disaster and most extensive calendar apps are moving to their own database. Once Pimlical gets it's own database, it will be able to sync directly with desktop Pimlical-- currently it only syncs indirectly. Both dektop and Android version sync with Google. Also, for now, Pimlical Android only has the calendar (there are tasks and floats, but they are on the calendar). The desktop has all the PIMS, but they don't sync. I suspect the new database will move getting the other PIMs closer.
I think Pimlical will get to being a Datebk6 replacement, but it is not there yet and it is probably a while off.
I never used Datebk6 and am Outlook centric. Probably because I consider the GTD method to be the FTTDSICKPOGTD (Finding Things To Do So I Can Keep Putting Off Getting Things Done) method.

Re: Still using TX?
Thanks, Hook!
It looks like my T|X is beginning to toe the line this morning, so I might not be in the market quite yet, but this is good stuff to know.
I wonder how much work it will be for me to sync one of those to an Ubuntu OS...

I haven't synched my T|X in some time because of the work involved getting this coordinated.Civility, Substance, Subtlety, Style: Success

Re: Still using TX?
In general, Android is not set up to sync to a computer. You can easily mount an Android phone as a USB drive. Most apps that provide syncing to a desktop use wifi. However, most apps that provide desktop sync only run on Windows or Mac including Pimlical (actually Windows only, despite being Java). By and large, for Pim syncing to desktop in Linux, you will need to use cloud-based methods to sync. Stan is a good source of knowledge on Linux and Android. For everything else except PIMS, DropBox is your friend.

Re: Still using TX?
Suck. I read somewhere that you can sync to Ubuntu One, but my last experience with One was ugly, to say the least...
Well, perhaps 11.10 or 12.04 will be more mature and stable. I'm going to wait awhile before upgrading anything, though.
My T|X seems to be behaving itself now, it was probably a little residual moisture trying to wreak havoc yesterday after an inadvertent dousing.Civility, Substance, Subtlety, Style: Success

Re: Still using TX?
Still using the TX, sync w ubuntu 9.04 is tempermental, too many lines to remember. Cannot use 10.14lts as it is missing the network access. So I am still using win for real back up... We tried to migrate to the iphone and it worked but no really good app for word yet.....

Re: Still using TX?
You can't use networking from 10.04? Is your network module no longer supported or something?
I tried using 11.04, but it was too unstable for me, so I am running 10.04...
Synching Ubuntu to T|X is a pain, which is why I haven't even tried this last time I built up my laptop-- either you synch with gnome-pilot, or with j-pilot, but it seems not with both; and I never did get wireless sync working correctly...Civility, Substance, Subtlety, Style: Success

Re: Still using TX?
I have J-pilot, but it is very unreliable, sometimes it works, other time I cannot click on the menu bar, the window moves around, and I cannot have more than one palm backed up, I bought a spare TX for pure back up. Otherwise I have XP and Mac OS running palm desktop for additional back up.
I have not tried gnome.
I am trying to migrate to Itouch with a hand me down, but no graphiti, no word nor excel.....
