Hot Synch Problems
I'm having mega problems trying to synch my T/X.
Tried last night, reached media and then stayed on media for a long, long while and I have to CTRL ALT DEL and am told the program is not responding. Did this twice, then changed the hot synch default to do nothing with media and was able to complete a hot synch.
End result was that for the first four albums of Media I had up to four copies of each photo which I have just deleted on the Palm Desk Top.
Tonight I cannot synch at all, it just keeps crashing or telling me the Palm and PC are not connecting.
I haven't changed anything on either PC or Palm other than to add some text on to a couple of Excel spreadsheets.
Anyone else experienced this and got any idea what I need to do to be able to synch again in the proper manner.
I'm running on Windows XP and with the original Palm software that came with the T/X.

Re: Hot Synch Problems
Just got through troubleshooting a hotsync problem in this thread. Although I don't think most of that applies to your situation, it can't hurt to read it if you haven't already.
Are you unable to get the HotSync Manager app on your PC to respond at all? What happens if it does run and you attach your device and try to hotsync (specifically)? (make a backup of your palm\<username> directory first.Tom

Re: Hot Synch Problems
It starts to hot synch occasionally and gets so far into the synch and just seems to freeze, pressing cancel on either Palm or PC doesn't work so I've been CTRL ALT DEL on PC and using the reset button on the Palm.
I had this happen once before but unfortunately cannot remember how I resolved it, I remember having to delete all the duplicate photos and stopping Media from synching and then whatever was wrong must have righted itself as I've had no problems since - that has to be at least 9 months or more ago.

Re: Hot Synch Problems
I get a box on the PC saying determining handheld configuration and nothing then happens.
And on the Palm itself it starts synchronising without my pressing the button!!! And just says synchronising and right at the top of the screen the top line is flashing (i.e. the edge of the screen).
And now I just got a message to say the connection is lost (HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410) from the log). I presume this indicates the Palm has something wrong with it.

Re: Hot Synch Problems
And indeed it has, I pressed the reset button and the Palm went dead for a couple of minutes.
Re-connected and it began synching without my pressing the button, it is synchronising expense, the hot synch 'box' on the PC is showing blank and the Palm just showing expense on it.
Now the box has synchronising Quick Install on it, that's after one minute
and again the hot synch connection is lost (6410).
Right, I give up for tonight as it is going to continue doing this.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful and will have a go at them tomorrow night.
Should I be thinking of installing the newer software that is on the Palm site? Would putting that on stop this happening?

Re: Hot Synch Problems
The newer software is designed for use with Vista.
Which USB port are you using? Some are underpowered for sync. Best is USB0 on back of computer, connected to motherboard or a powered USB hub.
Try syncing with Media turned off.DT Lives in SFO...away from flying objects.

Re: Hot Synch Problems
Since I had the Palm I've synched it from a USB hub. The cable is obviously working as it is charging the Palm, is it possible a connector is damaged - I do have anotgher cable stored so will get that out tomorrow evening and try it.
I disabled media synch yesterday and haven't switched it back on. I've checked Palm's page about the 6410 error and they suggest changing the connection speed - I've made that change but won't try re-syncing tonight as it's too frustrating and I've an early start tomorrow.
What worries me now is that when I press the re-set button the Palm is taking a long while to come back to life, long enough for me to start thinking it is dead!
I will try the other cable in case that is the simple solution, and will plug it in to a usb port on the back of the PC. If that doesn't work maybe a hard re-set and reinstall of everything on to the Palm. I'd like it to continue working for a few months more as I am considering replacing my mobile with the Palm Centro but my contract still has a while to run and I haven't yet seen the Centro in store here in the UK.
Thanks for the advice so far, at least the Palm is working (fingers crossed).

Re: Hot Synch Problems
Looks like the problem was with the cable. Connected the spare cable and was able to run a hot synch (but with Media synch turned off). I shall now dispose of the original cable and acquire another spare cable ready for the next time.
Cyberdude2 and Dick Tracey - thanks for being there when I needed help, always appreciated.

Re: Hot Synch Problems
The plot thickens! What was happening when Media appeared to be preventing the Palm synching, was that the photos were duplicating, and in some cases triplicated on the desktop, but not on the Palm. I had the conduit set to synch both ways and for some reason the desktop was taking every picture from the Palm as if it was not already on the desktop!
And my original cable IS okay, I had plugged the spare into a different USB port to the one I had the original in, today I put the original cable into that port and the hot synch (with media disabled) went well.
Photos that were stored on my memory card were not duplicating (phew) so I've moved all photos on to the card and left the Palm itself free of photos. The first synch has gone well and fingers crossed will remain like this.
(I'm writing this up on here so when it happens again I can come back and read what I did this time.)

Re: Hot Synch Problems
I'm not sure I understand what happened, but I'm glad you got up and going again. I had a duplicating photo problem on my device too. It started with only one photo duplicating everytime I HS, till I had 20 copies of the photo on my card, I cleaned this up on both the TX and the desktop. The only way I got it to stop was to delete the picture altogether, hotsync, then replace the picture then hotsync again.
