TX & auto charger
In scouring around for a good gps setup for my TX I also realize that I'll need a auto cigarette lighter charger for it, as I know with a long trip the TX battery will undoubtedly be depleted. I see there are two types of chargers: one has a stock charger tip and the other actually connects to the data plug (for syncing). Which one is most recommended? How about for surges when one starts the car. Is it always best to keep the TX off (and unplugged) until after starting the car? Here are the two charges I have found thus far:

Also, has anyone found it better to purchase a bundle type of charger that could also transmit FM?

Re: TX & auto charger
My solution would be a cheap USB port charger. You can buy them for less than $10, often $5, and just use your regular USB charge/sync cable, or buy a new cable. PC-Mobile sells the charger and a retractable cable for a reasonable price.

Re: TX & auto charger
Not what I'm looking for. In traveling, I want to be able to charge it while driving. From what I understand, the USB charger is for charging off my laptop. I want to charge from the cigarette lighter.

Re: TX & auto charger
I have three car chargers. One for my phone, one for my GPS unit and one for my T5. All any of them does is charge my toys whilst in the car. They serve no other purpose. I haven't detected any surges and I am not diligent about when I plug/unplug them. I also have an adaptor that allows me to charge two units at a time.

Re: TX & auto charger
I think he meant a cigarette lighter body with a USB port on the back. You plug it in to the car and then plug your "standard" or replacement data/sync cable into the end you can still see.

Re: TX & auto charger
Yes, like this one, although you can get them cheaper at Radio Shack, WalMart, or almost anywhere else.

Re: TX & auto charger
There are never enough outlets. My truck has 3, and I have installed an addon, which has 3 outlets, but uses one of the current ones, giving me 5. One is used by my inverter, which provides 110VAC, to power my laptop at times, and my cellphone charger, mp3 power, and an AC charger for my GPS. I also need power for my XM satellite radio receiver and my Palm, and the powered speaker for the Palm. I have it all sort of neat, but it's still not optimal.

Re: TX & auto charger
If you buy a Gomadic car charger with a repalceable tip you can use the same charger with multiple devices (not at the same time!). I use the same charger to charge my Tx and my cell phone.
