Talking Re: Palm TX Hints, Tricks and Suggestions Wanted ...

Wow! I found a good deal on SD Cards!

After getting the second, and longer, backorder notice on the 4GB SD card, I just cancelled that order and went shopping around.

In the course of my browsing, I registered at buy.com. About a day later, I get this email from buy.com telling me I can get $20 off for an order over $50 if I used Google's Checkout feature - plus free shipping! I also have a Gmail address, so I don't know if this fact figured into this or not. Update: buy.com offers the $20 off with Google Checkout to everyone who goes there.

Anyway ... as I tend to be frugal (Wifey sez 'cheap'), I jumped on this like a monkey on a hand of bananas! So I found Kingston 2GB SD cards for $30.29 each and I ordered two - minus the $20 Google discount, plus tax and with the free shipping - $44.97 FOB Maui for 4GB of SD card storage - albeit on two cards, but hey, then I get to hear the PalmPuke sounds more often ...

If you're looking for a good deal on SD cards, this could be worth checking out for you, too.

    Happy Thanksgiving !!

Sometimes I have trouble sleeping and so watch a recorded TV show or two on my TX. If my wife is asleep, it doesn't bother her. I was going to thank you guys for letting me know about Palmpuke, but unfortunately it's made it harder to be discrete to switch SD cards in the dark! Maybe if I used the "belch" sound she wouldn't notice...

you have to have a way to record tv onto your computer, then use TCPMP to watch the video file off of the SD card.

Check out the Multimedia forum for some help. I have a TV tuner in my Windows XP MCE computer to record the shows, then use Kinoma Producer to convert them to a format viewable on my TX. Kinoma Producer is not the only option, and there is freeware out there, too. I use TCPMP to view the programs, but am considering buying Kinoma Player 4EX.

    Good luck!

I did the TV tuner thing for a while a couple years ago. I had my PC setup to record the BBC News at 6am-6:25am to my SD card as a Divx video. Then I would grab my SD card on the way out to the bus at 6:35am and watch it on the bus.

    BTW, Inuyasha is awesome.

I meant to ask about this earlier, but forgot. I read in the manual that a hard reset is done by holding in the reset button on the back while powering up.

What advange is there to mapping the green power button to a hard button for hard resets, as the green power button is used for hard resets already?

    Clearly, I'm missing something here.

    Mahalo for your assistance!

To avoid you will be unable to hard reset if your power button does not work anymore
But it seems there are now even programs available to do a hard reset for you WITHOUT any button

Hard resets are intentionally made two-handed and complicated so that they will not be accidentally performed. While making the process simpler may seem like a good idea, I'd be more comfortable erring on the cautious side.

Think carefully about remapping hard buttons. As you add and remove applications you may discover that your wants and needs change.
