Installing ESU update
Is there anyway to install the ESU update without using an SD card and SD card reader? Better yet, are there any alternatives to the ESU?
I just picked up my first ever palm (a TX) this week and I'm not quite ready to shell out more dough for an SD card and reader just so I can perform a software/firmware update.
I need the update because I need to connect to a PEAP network.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to Brighthand JuneAlphabet.
The card and reader are mandatory. You will be able to use them for other purposes once you have installed the update.DT Lives in SFO...away from flying objects.

Re: Installing ESU update
welcome to Brighthand, JuneAlphabet. if you really are tight on cash, smaller capacity cards are pretty cheap on sale, even cheaper on the 'Net; and a card reader shouldn't be too much.

Re: Installing ESU update
Thanks for the replies!
If you don't mind, could you explain to me why this is needed? This is my first pda and it is beyond me why a memory card is needed for a software update.
Thanks again!

Re: Installing ESU update
In the case of this update you are flashing the ROM. Most updates are files added to RAM and will have to be reinstalled in the event of a hard reset.

Re: Installing ESU update
Don't be in such a hurry.. I just installed the ESU Update and it has really caused issues. It constantly crashes the web browser (built-in) . Palm cannot offer any advice.
STAY AWAY..

Re: Installing ESU update

Re: Installing ESU update
I presume to get what ever is necessary directly on to the card.
Brain -> Casio -> Sharp -> Filofax -> Palm Pilot -> Palm Professional -> Palm IIIc -> iPAQ 4660 (oops) -> TT3 + T610 + NavMan -> TT5 + SE K700i + NavMan -> TT5 + 2Gb SD card + SE K810i + universal PDA thumb board + external mike + TomTom ONE + BlackBerry 8800

Re: Installing ESU update
Streaky hit this one on the head. Theres no option to download the update directly to the device, so you need to download it/copy it to the SD card from your pc/card reader, and then place the SD card into the pda.

Once you have the sd memory card, you can also backup your TX. So you're effectively killing two birds with one stone...
