Well, I just bought my TX
Thanks to all that have provided great input on the TX since it came out and the many applications available to make it even better. I've been monitoring the forum for a number of months and waiting for the right time to buy my next Palm. Years ago, I started with a V and then went to a 505, which died late last year. I've been having job problems for a couple of years now, and wanted to avoid spending the money until the need was really here. I've been working since January, and between work, kids, church callings, etc, it's time to get a new device to help get my life back in order. So tonight I ordered a TX online from Circuit City for $269. I also got the 2 yr. extended warranty and I will be picking it up tomorrow.
I will try and go back to find comments on necessary programs to load first. (I don't think I am quite the power user that many of you are, but I do really enjoy my Palms and use them heavily.) It's amazing to me the vast number and type of applications available. I do clearly remember everybody's advice to let the TX charge overnight before I do anything else.
I've got a Linksys G network here at home and we have also have a G network at work.
One question comes to mind however that I cannot remember being mentioned before, and if you wouldn't mind some guidance, it would be appreciated. Should I treat the RAM in the TX as Palm software operating system space, and put all other applications on an SD card? Are there ramifications to some applications if I start using the TX without an SD card and then add one later?
Thanks for all your help and insight.

Re: Well, I just bought my TX
Congratulations on your new TX frisco.
Upgrade directions are in a sticky thread at the top of the TX forum. You really don't want to have to re-enter all those contacts. Links to software compatibility lists are also in that thread.
Since you have 100MB available, just put your apps in RAM. When you want to start adding music and videos, an SD card is the way to go. No need to worry about one now.
Be sure your G networks are set to B/G since the TX is a B device.

Re: Well, I just bought my TX
Welcome to BH and the TX frisco, you've made a wise choice. I wouldn't worry about filling up your TX memory as I've had my unit since November and I still have around 80mb free. I've even heard of some people running theirs with about 10-20mb free. I have most of my programs on the handheld and some, like ereader, I have the program on my handheld and the actual ebooks I keep on my card.
As far as your network, I'm not sure about the B/G thing because I've got a wireless G router which works great with my TX and whenever I travel , go to the mall, or my local coffee shop I just tap in and surf away. So apparently the B part is kinda automatic but again I'm no expert on networking.
Again welcome aboard and have fun.

@Mickeylittle
You're right that most -g networks will support -b devices. But there have been a few posts by people who weren't able to connect their -b devices on -g networks because the system admins (of the networks) had set them to not allow the -b connection. On some routers (and some wireless access points) connecting one device at -b speeds slows down ALL connections to -b speeds and the -g customers didn't like their connections speeds dropping. Just FYI.Why, I've got muscles in my head I haven't even used yet!

Re: Well, I just bought my TX
Thanks for the gracious welcome and the great feedback!!!
DT, I have been syncing with Outlook, which is where things were when the 505 died. Any specific issues bringing the TX on-line with Outlook?
berylrb, Alas, no, the only bridges we have in Frisco, TX are the highway overpasses.
Regarding the wifi, we've got an SMC wireless router at the office, and I'll know how that's going to work in a few days once I get the TX up and running.
Thansk again for the guidance. I feel better now that the purchase of an SD card can wait for a while.
