WyreNut: We are currently beta testing our VoIP phone for Palm (Articulation); would you mind checking if your microphone and the TX works okay with our software. This would allow us to include the TX as a working platform. We would also like to be able link to your product so we could point any TX users in your direction for a microphone - what web address is best?

    Regards,
    Neil Hampton.

Thanks so much for the offer Neil and Welcome to BrightHand!

Unfortunately, Articulation seems to have a lot of problems with a Palm TX!

It causes an instant soft reset every time I attempt to tap the "Done" button when finished entering my server information.

Prior to entering, the software shows "Registering" but never completes anything.

I went to the Connection menu, and was presented with the list of every connection option except Wifi.

When I went to "Network" (to tell it to use Wifi), it opened a dialog where I could select "Wifi". I was already connected, and tapping the Wifi icon below on the task bar would not respond, other than a "beep". It then led me to the Wifi Preferences page where I selected "Setup", it scanned for my home router and found it, I tapped connect, it appeared to then errored with "Failed to open ntework library 0x127A". Another error then popped up with "The network connection has failed. Articulation must be connected to a network in order to function". I'm already connected with 4 bars! I have to hit cancel to exit. Retry produces the same error sequence.

Keep me informed of any future releases!

So far, using my Palm TX and WyreNut's microphone, the software appears to work fine for both demo calls. My question is whether or not this can be used with SkypeOut. If all of this works, I will definitely buy your software. Thanks for all of your help.

Edit: Got it working with Free World Dialup yesterday. Sound quality is good.

UPDATE! Neil has sent me several revisions of his Articulation software, and boy have things changed! This app looks Very Promising!!

As with mike5's experience, I can now perform all the test calls successfully, and latency seems shorter than with the "other program" mentioned in this thread! Neil's software allows you to configure it for pretty much any VoIP provider you may be using! (Caution, my VoIP knowledge is still fairly limited -- hopefully Neil will be available here to answer any detailed questions..).

He has mentioned to me that he has successfully tried the software with both www.sipphone.com and www.stanaphone.com. I signed up for an account with FWD - http://www.freeworlddialup.com/ just for testing purposes. They don't offer connections to POTS lines yet, but keep promising...

Now to try the other VoIP providers I just listed!

Perusing the email I received from Freeworlddialup.com, I noticed they offered an actual number you can dial that is manned by real live volunteers! I decided, "What the heck" and put my headphones on, snapped on the mic, activated Articulation, and dialed the number.

About 5 seconds later, a very polite gentleman answers!

"Hello, Free World Dialup help line, how can I help you?" Clear as a bell! Turns out he's in the UK and using a dedicated VoIP telephone device. We had an uninterrupted chat, no drop-outs, and his only critique was "It sounds a little loud, perhaps you should turn the mic recording volume down a bit, otherwise, nice phone"!

This is probably the best connection I've had so far with ~any~ VoIP software I've used thus far on my TX.

Now this technology is starting to seem viable to me instead of a good "parlor trick"!

(We probably should move this discussion about Articulation to the "Software" section.. I'll start a thread over there.)

Articulation will not work with SkypeOut, but it will work with other services that offer similar things. The two mentioned by WyreNut and I have also just tested it against http://www.inphonex.com which offers calls in the US at around 2.5 cents/min. Stanaphone are offering 1.6 cents/min at the moment. This compares with SkypeOut at 2.1 cents/min.

Edit: InPhonex will work when the next update is posted to the WebSite (1.0b8 and above). There is a bug in the version of Asterisk server they are using which causes the authentication to fail - the next version of Articulation has a work around for this!

Just installed Articulation on my TX, started an account with FWD, but I can't seem to figure out where to find:
    a) server info
    b) domain info

I put in fwd.pulver.com as Domain, not sure if that's right, but no idea about the Server.
    Could you please help?

I have both TX and TC and tried it out today. It was easilly set up and worked just fine Of course to be able to speak over TC I have to try to find my headphone that had a mic on it. I used your external mic for TX to speak to the TC

Normally the settings for FWD are:

Server: fwd.pulver.com (if you have problems try): fwdnat.pulver.com:5082
    Domain: fwd.pulver.com
    Display: <whatever you prefer>
    User: <your FWD account #>
    Password: <your FWD password>

    HTH,

    WyreNut
Maybe it worked, maybe it didn't, but the problem is that no calls can be made. I tried both the echo test and the info call.

You wrote under User I should write my account #, don't I have to write my username?
