Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
I have been using the TomTom GPS on the TX and it has been working fine. Specifically, I have been using the maps for the Mid-Atlantic/New England area. I wanted to add a map for Puerto Rico but find that when I try to do so, I consistently receive an error message--Setup Internal Problem (2); cannot run conduit. Pls restart setup.
I have tried to restart setup but get the same result each time. How do I fix this?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Are you trying to do this through a Hot-Sync? And are you wanting to put the maps on an SD card?
If this is the case, it is easier to copy the files directly to the SD card. This is an option when working from the Map CD. It is not an obvious option, but somewhere in there, you have the chance to do it.
I know when I tried to install my maps through HotSync, it took forever, and eventually failed (Wi-Fi HotSync). I think some succeeded doing it this way, but most have failed.
Direct transfer to SD card via an SD card reader works very well.
Hope this helps.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Don--
I am trying to add the map of Puerto Rico by inserting CD #1 and selecting add maps. When I do so and select PR, the installation fails and gives the message I referenced previously. If I look at the contents of CD #1, I can find a large number of files for PR but I don't think moving all those files by card reader to the SD card on the TX will work. I'm assuming the map has to be installed via the software.
Thanks.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Hi James,
I have the TTN5 set of CD's, and just tried it out. I put in CD #1, chose Add Maps, Then Alaska, Hawaii, PR....then Puerto Rico on the next screen. Finally it gave me the option to install to the Palm Device, or "Other(Advanced)."
I chose "Other (Advanced)" and then a folder on my Hard Drive (the other option being direct to the SD drive, which I didn't have mounted at the time). It copied the set of files to the Puerto_Rico-Map folder.
I could then copy this folder to the SD card if I wanted to use it on my T|X.
Is this the same, or different, from what you're doing?

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX

Coincidentally, I had discovered exactly the procedure you describe. Then, I used a card reader to transfer the PR map from the computer to the SD card. However, after I do so and see that the PR map folder is indeed on the SD card, I find that TomTom on the TX does not see the PR map. I go into Preferences/Manage Maps/Switch Map and find there is no PR map there.
Do you find otherwise?
Thanks very much for your help.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Hi James,
I copied the entire Puerto_Rico-Map Folder on my hard drive, to the root of my SD card (the same place where the other Map Folders are located). I opened up TTN5 on my T|X, went to Preferences...Manage Maps...and switched to the Puerto Rico Map, which was listed there along with the other Maps I have on my SD card. I was able to open it, browse the map, etc.
In short, on my system, it seems to be working just fine.
Are you putting the entire folder, with no change in name, in the same place on the SD card where your other Map Folders are located? Unless there is a version difference, I'm not sure where you problem is.
Where is the error message being generated - on your PC? On the T|X without TTN5 running? Or within TTN5 when trying to switch to the Puerto Rico Map? Elsewhere?
Hopefully we'll track it down.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Don--
Thanks again for your help. Unfortunately, we are going from bad to worse.
I had the two map folders (New England/Mid Atlantic and Puerto Rico) in the root of the SD card but as I mentioned only the New England/Mid Atlantic maps showed up in tomtom. So I thought I would try to move both folders to the tomtom directory on the SD card. When I did so, tomtom indicated that no maps were installed. Then I moved both map folders back to the root but tomtom still found no maps whatsoever.
I have tried everything I can think of but still no maps. I restored the entire Palm from backupbuddy but that did nothing. I installed updated tomtom software (5.21) and that did nothing (if it installed correctly--it's a little difficult to tell with tomtom).
I don't normally synch everything on the Palm at once since it takes too long (I use GoSync for selective synching) and thought that might be the problem since I did see a tomtom item on the sync list. So I did a full sync and still no maps.
Any ideas on what to try next? I seem to recall that when I first installed tomtom on the Palm, there was some quirk that had to be followed to get it to install correctly but I can't remember what that was. Perhaps I should uninstall and start over???

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
That's a very puzzling turn of events, James!
I suppose there could be some 3rd party application you're using that's getting in the way - system hacks or other more systemic utilities.
I don't see a specific reason for all of this. You might go to Screen 5 of Change Preferences, and try Reset to Factory Defaults. I have no idea if this will help, but it's not likely it'll make things worse.
I checked, and I have Version 5.120 installed. It was working, so I never bothered with the 5.21 upgrade. As you've alluded to, you never quite know what's going on with this software, and TomTom's support is about the worst I've encountered.
You can certainly consider a full uninstall/reinstall. Just make sure you still have the original codes so you can verify that you're a valid user/purchaser.
Another option would be to check or post at the forums at PocketGPSWorld. There is a TomTomNavigator forum there, and the people are quite knowledgeable and helpful.
Keep me posted.Last edited by DLCPhoto; 05-07-2006 at 02:17 PM.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
Thanks again, Don. I'll keep you posted.
By the way, how did you find out the version number once installed? I have worked with various patches but don't see the version number anywhere once installed.

Re: Adding additional map to TomTom on TX
On mine, it is in Change Preferences, Page 5 of 5: Show Version. It is in the same page as setting back to Factory Default. I have no idea if it is there, or in the same place, in any other versions, but that's where it is on mine.
