old Palm desktop compatible with TX
Hi,
Using Palm Desktop version 4.1.4 to synch my Zire72 on Windows XP at home. Just received a TX from work but can't seem to synch contact and calendar on my home PC.
Installing an application was successful.
The custom defaults are "handheld overwrites desktop" for calendar and contacts.
Date book and adress book are set to "do nothing" and I can't seem to change that. Don't know the difference between these two and Calendar and contacts.
Records in calendar and contacts are not set to private.
do i need to re-install Palm Desktop from the CD included in the TX box? Will the Zire72 synch well with that version?
Thanks,
Mikalo

Re: old Palm desktop compatible with TX
Welcome to Brighthand mikalo.
You must use the software that came with the TX. Recommend that you hard reset the TX to ensure no incompatible files synced over when you used 4.1.4. Be sure to precisely follow Palm's upgrade directions so that you do not ruin the TX. These directions can be found by typing upgrade in the search box on the TX support page at Palm.com. You can also view my summary which is a sticky on the TX forum here.
The two word PIM conduits were used on older Palm handhelds, the final one being the T|C, and are not relevant for the TX. Use conduits matching what is on the TX, either or Outlook or Palm Desktop.
The Zire72 will sync fine so long as it has a unique Hotsync name.DT Lives in SFO...away from flying objects.

Re: old Palm desktop compatible with TX
thanks for the advice.
you got me worried about "ruining" the TX; will that be solved after a hard reset? so far didn't notice any harm.

Re: old Palm desktop compatible with TX
The TX has OS5.4, which is different from the Zire 72, particularly NVFS. Many users have skipped steps in upgrading and ended up with bricks because system files, hacks, TSRs and third party applications were installed from the prior device. Sometimes the problem was not immediately recognized and the wrong application blamed. A hard reset will restore the TX to factory state.

Re: old Palm desktop compatible with TX
perhaps i can piggyback here. i have a t/x and a t/e, the t/x is primary. i sync them with two different usernames. is it possible to sync the calendar and contacts from the t/x to the t/e; i think it's obvious that the desktop operating system is from the t/x.

To sync two user's calendar and contacts, there is a desktop utility that will handle, SyncUs.

Using the TX as a PDA
and the Zire72 as a digital camera and backup for Contacts via Infrared or Bluetooth transfer. Thanks for your inputs...
