Skype on a Palm TX?
I saw this very interesting post at the Eqo forum (Eqo is the company that has recently released a "free" service that sort of allows you to use your Treo 650 to make Skype calls).
Anyone with a microphone modded TX want to give it a try and let us know if it really does work? I'm assuming it would also work with a LifeDrive, which already has the microphone.

Palm Wifi support

Heya, since you can get eqo to work on the Palm os, it would be also great to be able to use it on wifi, such as the Palm TX. This is a feature for pocket pc's, and skype has avoided a version for palm.
I know alot of people who would love this feature.
thanks
The reply from someone at Eqo was:
RE: Palm Wifi support
All EQO needs is a data internet connection to work. As long as you give it internet connectivity, EQO should work. I've personally never tried using EQO on a Palm over wifi, but I think there is a pretty good chance that it would work. Please try if for yourself and let me know how it goes.
We realize that there are many Treo users out there interested in EQO, mostly because Skype has not yet developed a Palm version. We will do as much as we can to improve EQO for Palm Treo and will consider all suggestions coming from this forum.
Thanks for posting and please post again if you have anymore ideas.

Re: Skype on a Palm TX?
You need SkypeOut credits (Purchase required through Skype) to use this...
Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
Tablet: Kindle Fire
The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Re: Skype on a Palm TX?
I just gave it a whirl on my Palm TX. It's a bit of a pain to get it installed and configured. You have to install the beta app on your PC (the same one Skype will be running on), create an EQO account, run a setup wizard (that assumes you are installing to a cell phone), and then install the Palm-side client app (which also requires the IBM WebSphere java apps).
You can't make voice calls because the way it works is your desktop Skype program uses SkypeOut and actually calls your cell phone and conferences your cell phone into the Skype conversation -- and, since most Palm TX's don't have phone numbers, there's nothing for SkypeOut to call, natch.
EDIT: One thing I just noticed you *can* do is have the EQO software divert your Skype call (via SkypeOut) to an alternate number (non-Treo cell, home, office). So, presumably, you could divert the call to your normal cell phone and make your call that way. Why would you want to do that? Well, that's kind of what I've been wondering about why you'd even want to use Skype from your Treo in the first place. I suppose if you wanted to make international calls from your cell phone, this might be a cheap way to do it. Other than that, I've yet to see any reasonable explanation as to why anyone would need to use Skype from their Treo (other than "because you can.").
However, you *can* use Skype IM via wifi using EQOMobile on the TX (and, presumably, on a LifeDrive) -- as long as you have an Internet connection. There should be a post on PalmAddicts soon describing my experiences. Once it's posted there, I'll paste it in here.
The bottomline, though, is that it will run on a Palm TX and at least allow you to use Skype IM (although, I still prefer my other Palm IM app -- MunduIM).Last edited by mshuffma97; 04-28-2006 at 11:30 AM.
