I think there is a hack that lets you hacktivate it w/o verizon. Precentral has a thread about it.

It actually arrived today but I probably won't get to checking it out until Monday. I am shocked at how fast Amazon Prime shipped it, I am starting to think they hid the distro center in my basement, it arrived so fast!
Holy smokes. I just started looking at those hacktivate threads. Sheesh. I think running iOS on a Droid must be easier. Ok, ok, so I'm not really dedicated enough to jump through hoops just for an experiment.

I think I'll just settle for vicariously following your thread.

    LOL.

I didn't look too closely, sorry it is so complex!

24hrs in with Pixi Plus...still on the fence about it, but I do think it makes a fantastic messaging device. The big question is whether it's reliable enough/comfortable enough to tether to my NOOKcolor for heavy lifting. We will see...the plan is to give it at least a week and see how it all works out.

Any universal search reflections? I think CLI is the most underutilized mobile UI option out there, and from a distance at least, WebOS's implementation seems somewhat graceful.

Haven't really tested it yet. I do like the UI quite a bit overall though.

I also have this observation: there are few, if any, implementations of an app store that could make the android market seem graceful, but Palm's app catalog manages to do it. It's clunky and not impressive. Good thing I don't need many apps!

I think I'm not understanding what you are looking for here because you seem to think it is rare. I think you are asking about a search that searches both everywhere on the phone and the web and pulls up anything that matches-- web pages, contacts, names of apps, whatever. Both Symbian and Android do this just fine. I don't know about iOS, but I would be surprised if it didn't.

I am awaiting someone to report on the newer smaller Web OS device that is also priced near $50. I like the idea of a compact smart phone with a camera and the ability to use WiFi (I refuse to pay the phone company data money.)

The new WebOS smartphone is restricted to ATT which I use the pay as you go plan ($25 for three months if the .25/min-and .20 for text are not used up.)

Underutilized ≠ rare. And CLI is not just search. One thing WebOS added to the mix was that it begins searching without having enter a search screen -- reducing the number of actions you need to get to where you're going (just like chrome offers paste-and-search/go, simple, but hard to figure why it didn't used to be an option). Just start typing. That's far from what I'm ultimately looking for though. David Beers is informative on the direction I'd like to see an ideal instantly available CLI mechanism take.

    (sorry, missed this post earlier)

Edit: Just noticed Android has just-start-typing search as well. I thought I had asked someone about that back when WebOS first hit, but some googling indicates this feature has been around for some time. Makes sense, google doing what they do. Now I know.

I'm a late-comer to this thread but I wonder how it's holding up for you. I looked at the Pixi but dismissed it as being too small for me.

Some people buy them for use on Page Plus and seem to like them pretty well but they often warn of short battery life. I thought that might be a problem for you if you intend to use it as a mobile hotspot.

So far so good. I really like how small it is coming from a hefty Droid.

Battery life is fine for a weekend where I'm likely to be home and therefore on the NC on wifi more. Hotspot does drain the battery during the week but the pixi uses microUSB, same as the NOOKcolor and my Kindle...so I keep a charger in the office and one at home, and it works out fine. I can plug the Pixi in for an hour or so in the afternoons to top it off and it makes it to evening no problem.

(Bear in mind that I have yet to have a smartphone that I didn't charge every night, and usually for a bit during the day at well. I get a lot of email and I'm on my phone a fair amount.)

That's still better performance than I would have thought. We use a Verizon mifi which is physically no bigger than the Pixi, really, but then, it's just a dedicated hotspot with no other functionality. It's usually good for about 4 hours constant use.

I just couldn't use the small keyboard. And this coming from somebody who texts on a BB8800 all the time.

Also, having been frustrated with the small screen on my Motozine, I really couldn't see myself getting a smartphone with a screen that small. Then again, I have 52 year old eyes.
