Is your Windows 7 the 32-bit or 64-bit version? If 32-bit, then you can hotsync with the USB cable, but you need PalmDesktop 6.2.2 (older versions 4.x are not compatible with Win 7). You can download the newer version from Palm's website. Hotsyncing via WiFi is also possible.

If you the 64-bit version, then you can't sync via USB because there are no drivers available. I think you can sync via WiFi, but again with PD 6.2.2.

Why do people believe that palm desktop 6.22 is the only one compatible with windows 7.

Speaking personally, my belief stems from reading several threads where users have managed to run older versions of palmDesktop (4.x) on their Win 7 boxes, with varying degrees of success. Some of the problems encountered with these setups seem to be that the Quick Install tool does not work (you have to use alternate methods to install programs), or that you have to install and/or execute PalmDesktop 4.x in XP compatibility mode (available only on higher-end versions of Win 7), or other seemingly unexplainable problems (i.e. hotsync starts failing unexpectedly). I think these problems are enough to qualify a program as incompatible with Win 7. That's why I prefer to recommend Win 7 users to install PalmDesktop 6.22, which is compatible with Windows 7. If you do run PalmDesktop 4.x on Windows 7 without any problems, please share how you did it.

raspabalsa: Thanks for the reply. We recently replaced a 6 year old XP desktop in my sons room with a windows 7 64bit. I had previously seen a post at the Aceeca site that stated they would have a 64bit driver with in a couple of weeks. When Aceeca posted the driver just days after our purchase I installed the Palm desktop that came with my TX on the 64bit 7 computer and manually loaded the 64bit driver. I can hotsync and use quick install to load programs. It transfers everything I have setup in the hotsync also. This is my only personal experience with windows 7. I believe there is more to it than just windows 7 being a problem. Some people have had success with the 6. and a couple of others have had to drop down to one of the 4. versions of the desktop. I am guessing that some of the recent updates including the service pack 1 have had something to do with this. I have an Xp Pro and a Vista home premium laptop with the TX disk 4.2 desktop on both and have no problems with them either.
