Default What's happening within the hour at HPalm?

Palm US webpage is showing a countdown. Given the amount of times Ed Hardy has surprised me with his awareness of events, I wonder, can we get any insight, or is this already a scheduled release, or what?

That much flak has Palm received lately, I still have a portion of faith good to them. Flak that I've contributed to, BTW. But there's faith as well.

Mods, if you determine this thread is mislocated, please relocate, thanks.

A Pre3 with a 3.5" screen, same design, fast processor, no card slot. (Yawn)

What looks like a chubbier Pixi (yawn)

And a new Tablet. (I'll take a loook at that)

    However, over all... yawn.

EDIT: The Touchpad looks interesting. A good competitor to Apple, depending on what software appears. I think it is dual core and they talk like there might be a wifi only version.

unfortunately, a little too iPad-like -- no external storage (unless I missed it), and looks like it's dependent on a wireless carrier (same disclaimer). and even though it's getting a little long in the tooth, I haven't forgotten being abandoned by The_Company_Formerly_Known_As_Palm....

Ah, yeah, I saw it, thanks. Yeah, the touchpad looks nice. What's your bet people on the net cost of an external card slot incorporated to a cellphone? 30 bucks? No, there are cellphones with the slot for 30 bucks shelf price. What is it, with this current trend of no external card. Do they really think we can be totally always online?

The 'chubbier' Pre seems to be actually smaller, but wider than a Pre, in the fashion of that Microsoft cellphone that didn't make it through a whole year, what was its name? Well the Pre series are still attractive, and I notice the absence of a newer Pixi. BTW, ever since the WebOS devices arrived here, I've seen a good number of Pres (lessay a hundred - EDIT, no, about fifty), and ONE Pixi.

A friend of my sister has just been given an iPad. I've had time to play with it and, while in general guidelines it's nice and I understand why it's becoming so popular, I wouldn't purchase a modern tablet. Not yet. One point in favor of this new HPalm tablet, is that WebOS already has multitasking, opposing the iPad's iOS.

hal, not even close. When you're talking thousands of devices, a card slot is probably <$10.

I like the HP Veer. I'd love to be able to switch from a larger smart phone to a tiny smart phone whenever I felt like it. I think the Veer would be fun to own.

It looks like they are doing their best to try to get people to forget. The Palm name is almost completely absent from the promotional materials and shots of the devices.

HP has moved on - without a hint of Palm - but should we be surprised? They've been doing that for the last couple of years - forgetting their loyal users. I picked up a new Centro on ebay back in November - so I'm still happy, everything I need works. I'm waiting to see what happens when the dust settles with HP and will take a look at the Pre 3 and maybe a tablet at that time. HP said the Pre 3 would be out in the summer - but they didn't say what summer.

sure, good marketing at work...as opposed to the automaker Scion, which makes a model called the TRD

I don't think 'TRD' is a model. It's a designation Toyota's used forever and it stands for 'Toyota Racing Design.' They use it for aftermarket parts and upmarket versions of models, like AMG, M-sport, etc. To be honest, pronouncing it as a word never occurred to me (I read out the full name in my head, because that's how I learned it); but you make a good point.
