Warning against a TX|2 with 4GB of flash.
Remember when I posted on Brighthand weeks before the release of the LD that the HD would be a disaster? I was pretty much right.
I read that Palm is rumoured to be planning a 4 GB flash rom drive in the TX|2.
That would not be as big an error as the LD HD, but it will not be good for TX|2 sales. The cost of that 4 GB rom should be converted into an OLED screen (or a variant), front speaker, mic, vib alarm, software licensing for things that once were on the the T5, etc. (as I posted recently on Brighthand).
If Palm wants to market the idea of "TONS OF SPACE!" then let them ship the TX 2 with a "free" 4 GB SD.
To be fair, there is a major benefit of having a 4GB internal drive. If you add a 4 GB SD, you then have 8 GB. But the question is... is it worth it to sacrifice other technologies that are needed to absorb costs? Palm has to try hard to stay under the 300$ cost.
I am willing to bet that consumers prefer to buy ever growing larger SD cards instead of paying more upfront for the TX2.

Well, OK.

I'd vote for 2 SD slots, even on a TX, since there are at least a few add-ons that use the existing SD slot & currently that means loss of that additional memory while using the add-on

Re: Warning against a TX|2 with 4GB of flash.
I don't know why Palm would be going full-tilt with internal storage space. I think it's best to leave storage to the external SD slot (or two!). This, of course, will keep the costs down and probably translate to a more reliable PDA.
I think Palm should be more concerned with developing a decent version of PalmOS to replace Garnet.... ASAP! My next PDA purchase, after my T|X needs to be replaced, will hinge on the OS available at the time. Will it be Windows Mobile? Maybe, but I hope not.Palm IIIx > Palm m505 > Palm Tungsten E > Palm Tungsten C > Palm T|X > Palm Treo 680 > BlackBerry Bold 9000 (OS 5.0.0.822)
What took so long?

Re: Warning against a TX|2 with 4GB of flash.
I disagree with your basic premise. I haven't found the HD a disaser in the LD. It's been pretty stable and dependable. Frankly, it's less buggy (before the V2 patch) than the T5 was before its patch. It was poor software quality, not the hardware that was the Achilles heal of the LD.
