Anything happening in Palmville in April?
April and October used to be announcements in Palmville. Anything happening in 2006? My sweetie has a Zire 71 that she moved to from a M505, unfortunately the Z71 is starting to act up. I recommended the TX for her over the E2 (or a Treo), but would like to know if anyone thinks there will be anything other than a LD2 and more Trei (plural of Treo) forthcoming?

Re: Anything happing in Palmville in April?
Palm could be laying real low with new product in the wings, but from experience, they would need to be manufacturing off planet for it to be kept secret.
The new Trei are only major rumblings, and announcement dates are not even rumored correctly.
If I would quess a surprice product release, I would suspect a low end model to compliment the Zire22, but include SD card. This would fit in the product class between the Z22 and the TE2, and I would name it "Zire33"

Re: Anything happing in Palmville in April?
With more than 70% of Palms revenue comming from Treo sales, and Palms' CEO stating that Palm is moving to the smartphone market, I like many others don't think Palm will release any PDAs in the future, just Treos.

personally..I don't like this trend towards converged devices..I prefer having a sepperate PDA and cell phone. (from where I'm sitting, the same things that make cell phones good (small size, long battery life at the expense of power) are the same things that make handhelds suck. (ideally, a handheld seems to need a large, high resolution screen and more processing power than it'll ever need) well....that and I don't want to be tied to a contract for X years just to avoid paying some ungodly wad of cash for my next organizer.
(did I just screw up? if so, tell me. I'm always avalable via SMS and Email)

Agreed, unfortunatly, the business community is requesting data access to remote and field staff 7x24 no matter where.

I do not blame Palm for following the profits, just hope they do not forget that only a small portion of the entire market as yet adopted PDA technology as a tool to keep oneself organized. Every now and then they will need to capture the market with a cost-wise offering to entice that first time adopter.
Converged technology is here, as a tool businesses are willing to pay for the select, individuals that are willing to pay are the minority, or are just fellow geeks. Me I let business pay, and keep my personal tools in check, (cost-wise).Welcome to Brighthand

I'd have to agree with you, but Microsoft holds Outlook in high regard.

Re: Anything happing in Palmville in April?
OK. Next question: Where did the sticky post on how to upgrade a Palm PDA go? Bear in mind that I last upgraded to a T3 (not counting that short-lived abortive attempt with a LifeDrive), so I've not done an NVFS PDA, and I've been using a PPC for awhile. She's not interested in dealing with the complexities of the PPC, so another Palm is perfect for her. Since she's got the Zire 71 currently and has BackupBuddy:VFS and BackupBuddy for Windows and the Palm Desktop it should be fairly straightforward for a clean install. The only extra apps I'm aware of that she has are DATEBK4 or 5, HandyShopper, and PalmReaderPro with some dictionaries and the like.

For the record, Palm will be releasing more PDAs, they own the market on traitional PDAs, they have no reason to exit, even if most of their revenue comes from Treo.

Re: Anything happing in Palmville in April?
I never bought the idea that since most of the revenue came from Treo's they would only make Treo's. They should] concentrate on them but why would you stop providing a product that makes money? Now if they could prove that by changing all of their focus to Treo's the income would be > than current Treo + Handhelds -- then I guess I would understand.
Handheld devices: Palm IIIxe, Sony SL10, Sony SJ30, Palm T|T, Palm T3, Palm T5, Palm TX, Treo 755p, Palm Pre, HTC EVO
Friends made in palm OS communities: priceless
Current: HTC EVO4G with CM7.2
