Gave up on the Centro
I was excited when the Centro came out, and bought one. It has been one disappointment after another. I learned to hate it within a few short months. I stopped using any of the "Palm" functionality, and was using it strictly as a phone & address-book, and pulled my E2 back out of storage.
A while later, the Centro started trying to sync, even though it was not connected to a PC. No matter how often I canceled it, it would immediately start again. I tried hooking it up to my PC and letting it do a sync, but it just started again as soon as it finished. Hard reset didn't help anything either.
I finally sent it in for an exchange. When the replacement came, it worked for about a week, then started sync-looping. Replacement #2 worked for 2 days, then the touchscreen stopped responding. Replacement #3 seemed ok, until I initiated an IR transfer, and it turned off, never to turn on again. Replacement #4 worked for 1 month, then sync-looped.
Needless to say, my Centro is now in a million tiny, yet satisfying pieces. I have gone back to my old, reliable E2 and an old flip-phone. I doubt I will ever buy anything new that Palm puts out. Nothing newer than PalmOne models. If worse comes to worse, I still have an m515 to go back to, or even my old Palm III.

Feel better now.

Welcome to Brighthand, willichan.
I hope your future choices turn out better. Far as I can tell, there is no trouble shooting left to do here.

Re: Gave up on the Centro
Wow, what a tale. My wife and I have had our Centros for almost 2 years and both have been extremely stable.

Re: Gave up on the Centro
My son's centro has been been an absolute tank, serving him for just over 2 years, I am now readying it for my younger son - the older one has moved to a Pre - and he has had zero problems with that.
I would recommend reconsidering HPalm stuff once it finally arrives?

Re: Gave up on the Centro
Perhaps something went awry while upgrading from the E2 to the Centro.

Re: Gave up on the Centro
good point, jig; but with the last Centro split out for each of the miniNetB's, we'll never know....

Re: Gave up on the Centro
Yeah, my guess was going to be that something that shouldn't have from the E2 kept getting on the Centros, but it didn't seem there was any point in bringing that up with the shredded Centro.

Re: Gave up on the Centro
My Centro has been working fine for the 1.5 years - except when it decides to stop syncing the calendar & contacts over night. My guess is that on an average it drops 2 calls a week - leaving the caller & I with a high pitch sound. I do miss my TX's screen - but for the most part - it does a lot!

Re: Gave up on the Centro
I have owned numerous Palms over a 14 year span and the Centro has been by far the most stable: less than 1 soft reset per month. As a VWZ customer I am considering a Pre but am waiting to see if an iPhone shows up by summer's end.
