Default Which this Axim´s are better?

    Hi for all.

I am new in this forum and this is my first post. So I am a newbie in PDA/Handhelds world.

This week a had a great opportunity to get my first handheld, an Axim and I have 3 models to choice, but I dont know wich is better and more stable.

    The models are:

    AXIM X51V 624MHZ 3.7VGA with Win Mobile 5.0
    AXIM X51 520MHZ 3.5QVGA with Win Mobile 5.0
    AXIM X50 624MHZ 3.7VGA with Win Mobile 2003

All the for the same price.

My interests are to run an emulator for HP 12C, skype, messenger, web browser and e-mail.

So I need your help to decide wich one of that 3 models I have to get?

    Thanks.

The AXIM X51V 624MHZ 3.7VGA with Win Mobile 5.0 would be top, unless you specifically wanted a WM200SE device, in which the AXIM X50 624MHZ 3.7VGA with Win Mobile 2003 would be top. And, BTW, at 624MHz and with VGA, this has to be the X50V model. I would not personally buy the lesser models of the X50/X51 lines, so the AXIM X51 520MHZ 3.5QVGA with Win Mobile 5.0 would be out of the running for me.

    Between the X50v and X51v:

-The X50v is designed for WM2003SE, but does have a WM5 upgrade. Unfortunately, when running WM5, the device will often be slowed down by the infamous compaction thread issue. The X51v, on the other hand, is designed for WM5, and cannot run WM2003SE.
-The X50v has 128 MB of NOR NVRAM. The X51v has 256 MB of NAND NVRAM. Whatis the difference between NOR and NAND, you ask? NOR is faster to read from and supports XIP(Execute-In-Place), but NAND is faster to write to.
-The X50v comes loaded with the WIDCOMM/Broadcom BT stack in WM2003SE, whereas both devices under WM5 use the MS BT stack. There is a Broadcom BT stack hack offered on Aximsite, but BT-multiplayer-enabled games like Warfare Incorporated that require the Broadcom stack still won't give me the BT multiplayer option under WM5, regardless of the stack used.
-The X50v under WM2003SE can run a GAPI tweak that vastly improves the performance of games, and possibly other apps. Under WM5, it won't crash the device or anything, but you won't see a thing regarding the game. Sadly, it hasn't been patched to fix this.
-The X50v has a backup battery which allows for a battery swap without causing any sort of reset. The X51v will soft reset upon removal of the main battery, most likely because the presence of a backup battery to keep the RAM fed was seen as unnecessary under WM5 because of the persistent storage memory model.

Overall, there are only minor differences. While I would certainly love to have a X51v, I managed to get my X50v for a ridiculously low price(143.60 US$ shipped!), and I didn't feel that having the newer, designed-for-WM5 model was worth paying at least twice the price.

Go with the X51v. For the same price, it's significantly superior to the other two options. The next best choice would be the X50v (The X50 624 MHz), but the X51v has twice the storage and a significantly longer battery life.

Agreed, if the price is the same, the X51v is clearly superior to all the others.
The VGA devices are better than the QVGA ones.
Obviously, the 624MHz CPU is better than 520MHz.
The X51v also has the largest integrated ROM (even considering the overhead taken by WM5).
It's just newer than all the other models and incorporates all the newest improvements.
It has no backup battery, but that's an insignificant tradeoff given the advantages of the WM5 OS.

The only thing you'd even briefly pause on would be X51v vs X50v ... the X51v is better overall, in most measurable capacities. The older X50v can run WM2003SE, which might be considered a better OS version by some old-timers (like me) than the newer WM5. Even so, if somebody offered me a choice of any one of those Axim models at the same price, I'd take the X51v without hesitation.

Thanks for all replies and explanation about the models.

Next friday I will buy the Axim handheld. If I can get the x51v It will be it, if can´t, x50v will be my other option.

    Thanks again.

200 US$ for an X51v? What kind of deal have you stumbled upon? Those devices generally average 300 US$ on eBay, if not more!

As for me having an X50v instead...143.60 US$, and that's including shipping. The typical eBay X50v averaged 200 US$, which was out of my price range, and forget the more expensive X51v!
