Why do you want X50 if you already own another PPC?
I was just wondering how many people who already own a PPC wants X50v?
I will start with mine reasons: I just received HP ipaq 4700, loves the screen and everything but did not like touch pad et all. I need regular "buttons and switches" that I can really use. X50v is more or less similar in configuration (I would not touch video chip subject) but has more familiar lay out. I am going to try both for a while (after I get x50v of course) and if performance is at par, I'll sell my iPAQ 4700. 4" vs 3.6" screen is not a much of difference to me.
How about you?

I love my hx4700. I like the big screen and so far the 1800 mAh battery is turning out to be perfect for me.
I can listen to mp3's, read books, handle my scheduling and at the end of the day, I still have about 50% battery left.
And the battery size is my main concern with the x50v. 1100 mAh just doesn't cut it on a VGA machine. My e805 had a 1300 mAh battery and it was struggling by the end of the day.
I think that if you get the x50v, you will almost surely have to spring for the extended battery which adds another $100 to the price of the unit.

I 100% agree with you that battery is the biggest weakness of X50v. However, it depends how you use your ppc in a typical day.I don't use it for MP3 or video movies. I use it basically for various medical programs. In my case, its the comfort level that is more important. Of course, there are MANY people who had indicated their love for touch pad, it's just individual choice. Even if I have to buy extended battery, still cost will be comparable to ipaq 4700. Moreover, I have not decided yet which one to keep
?
I need to have hands on experience on both these machines prior to making a decision.

I would certainly appreciate your feedback once you have had a chance to evaluate both units.

I ordered the X50v when it came out because I really want a VGA screen, I also grabbed the 2200 battery. Since it is not supposed to ship until November I have time in case I change my mind. I really want to see a head-head comparison between these 2 PDA's. I could not resist the Dell since I had a coupon and the total came to $550.00 w/overnight shipping & the 2200 battery. As much as price has been the issue I do not think the HP is that much more expensive than the Dell considering the below.
Hx4700:Seems to come with a better software package with PI and the connection software by BVRP. It also has a larger screen and the battery is huge.
You can see why I'm still torn even though I have already ordered the Dell.

I am in the same boat. I don't think that performancewise we will see much difference. I know people look at the numbers but I want to see how it performs in a real life situation. Hx 4700 screen is brilliant and I really like the performace. But I have a feeling that I may also like X50v due to its smaller size and familiar lay out. I really tried touch pad for many days but still am not convinced that its as practical as regular naviganional button pad. I also did not like tiny buttons on the touch pad but again what else could HP put on the touch pad? May be I have used Toshiba e805 for so long that I am having hard time using the touch pad.I ordered the X50v when it came out because I really want a VGA screen, I also grabbed the 2200 battery. I ordered the X50v on Tuesday so I can compare with my hx4705. The 2D graphics issue that shock me actually dying down because I read in some forum that DELL is fixing it since all reviewers X50v were pre production units. Picard Betaplayer going to support the 2700G video chipset and I hope Morphgear going to support it as well. I alway have some doubt about DELL quality and down hill support, I alway like the iPaqs quality and HP supports. Not until I received and tested the X50v, I can't made up my mind which one is the one to keep and sell or return the other. In the mean time, while waiting for the X50v arrival, I am thinking about getting a Palm devices like Sony UX50(still available, have to look harder) or Zodiac 2 so I can have both world just like I have both Windows and MAC PC at home.

Does the extend battery make the unit thicker or is it completely enclosed?
Does anyone have the actual usage time for each of the batteries? I've heard 2 hrs on WiFi and 2:40 for regular usage, I assume it's for 1100. link Does the 2200 double that time? Probably not, right?

I ordered an X50v and I REALLY don't see what the big deal is about the standard battery:
(1) It comes with a charger and cradle...well duh. If I'm not using it, it sits in the cradle. End of discussion.
(2) I have a car charger for my iPAQ 4150 (I think it has a 950 mAh battery, maybe less). Whenever I use it in my car (for Bluetooth GPS), it's always plugged in. I plan on getting one as well for the X50v.
(3) When I'm at work, I use my desktop mainly. And if I do have my iPAQ with me, I have a USB sync-n-charge cable that I hook up. No issues there as it charges the unit up. I would do the same with the X50v.
As I have said many times before (mainly when the PalmOS people were crapping on the PocketPC platform for its "subpar" battery life compared to Palms), there is not a single time when I've run into issues with me being "stranded" b/c my unit has run out of power (even when using WiFi). I am always within earshot of a charging point. Heck even if the battery only lasts three and a half hours with WiFi, I can't think of a single reason why I would be staring at my PDA's screen for 3 and a half hours out of the day. And even if I were, I wouldn't be that far from an outlet if I needed to charge.Of course, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong.
