When making an upgrade to a newer PDA I don't want to take any steps back.

Like I said I would like to grab my PDA in the AM and not have to charge it until I go to bed. That seems pretty simple to me.
No, I don't get a commission on cable sales. But it's a no brainer accessory for any PDA (or cell phone for that matter).

Life is not perfect. No PPC is perfect. But we do our best to adapt to whatever is thrown at us.

Would I like to be able to go all day w/o charging? Sure. Can I make a $10 outlay to make everything all peachy? You betcha.

You can't make the hx4700 smaller or lighter. But you can extend the X50v's battery life pretty cheaply and effectively.

Bottom line, at $500 (I paid $453.84 after 15% coupon and 7% sales tax), the device is a steal...especially compared to the hx4700
Of course, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong.

I couldn't agree more. I cannot understand why some people are complaining about the 1100 mAh battery on the Axim when you can upgrade it for $89 to 2200, which is bigger than the HX4700's. You pay $61 less than the cost of the HX and you get an extra battery and a cradle which has a slot to charge an extra battery.

As far as I can see the only advantage of purchasing the HX is you don't have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to ship. I actually was deciding between the Asus A730w and the Dell. I chose the Dell mostly due to the price and faster CPU.

Many of us don't have "desk jobs." I work in a hospital and my PDA spends most of it's time in my pocket, or in my briefcase. And when I'm away from work, I use my PDA to: read/write e-mails, web surf, listen to music, read e-books, read other reference books. None of the stated tasks are easily done when sitting at my desk.

Battery life clearly is not a big issue for you, due to the way that you use your device. For many of us, though, it is a critical issue.

On a different, but related subject, how big is the larger capacity battery? In general, I find it easier to carry a second standard battery, since most of the extended batteries are too big to fit into a regular case.

The larger battery is larger only in the sense that it has 2200 mAh as opposed to 1100mAh. It is the same size physically, at least according to the Dell representative I spoke to.

Wow...that would be really cool. A 2220 mAh that fits into a regular size case is a pretty impressive accomplishment.

I have to admit that I've never been a big Dell fan. I have an Apple Powerbook for my laptop, and after seeing the quality of some of Dell's desktops, I decided to build my own Windows machine. But Dell really seems to have looked at what the consumer would want when they built the X50v, ie. VGA, dual-memory slots, dual-wireless, compact size, large capacity battery and a reasonable price. In comparison, both Palm and HP's offerings seem to be overpriced and offering features that no one was asking for. Oh, well. Competition is a good thing...

Thanks for posting that link. For me the big question is if the extended battery would fit into a "regular" leather case by Sena, Covertec, etc. If it did, one could leave the "big? battery in all of the time; some of the Mugen batteries (e805) are small enough to be used this way.

In contrast, the extended battery on my 4155 is too big for most leather flip cases. In that case, it is more convenient to just get an extra standard battery and swap it half way throughg the day.

So I guess we'll have to wait until the first pictures of the extended battery are posted on the web.

I ordered the 2200 but I do hope Mugen has a higher capacity battery that will fit in the place of the 1100. I remeber seeing the pics of the 4100 with the extended battery and it really takes away from the form factor, I hope the 2200 doesn't do the same to the X50v. I don't want to have to butcher a case to get the X50v to fit with the extended battery.

I really want to see a head-head comparison between these 2 PDA's. I could not resist the Dell since I had a coupon and the total came to $550.00 w/overnight shipping & the 2200 battery. As much as price has been the issue I do not think the HP is that much more expensive than the Dell considering the below.

Hx4700:Seems to come with a better software package with PI and the connection software by BVRP. It also has a larger screen and the battery is huge.

You can see why I'm still torn even though I have already ordered the Dell.
Do you know if the extended battery adds any more bulk to the unit or is it the same size as stock battery? Thanks!
