    Default Crazy opposing viewpoints

From the same basic parent publication, two writers with two completely different viewpoints on the exact same survey. Make SURE you look at the headlines for each article, as the surveys are the same!

Yeah, it's all how you spin it. One headline is about marketshare, one is about growth. Likewise, on the phone scene, one could point out that Windows Phone is growing rapidly and iPhone is receding slightly, or you could point out that the iPhone still outsells WP8 phones something like fifteen-to-one. It's all spin...

Out of all of the tablets that installed Good’s management software during 2012, Android’s share grew from 2.7% in the first quarter to 6.8% by the fourth quarter, with the iPad grabbing nearly the entire rest of the market.

Ya know, if you sell 100 phones one year, and then 200 the next year, you are growing at 100%. Thats phenomenal (he says sarcastically)

On the other hand, everyone starts small. It's easy to pooh-pooh Android tablets now for high growth rates but low market share, but it would be easy to pooh-pooh Android phones at the end of 2009 with the same reasoning ("great growth rate...but pity your market share is a joke compared to the two kings of the market, Symbian and RIM! ). And look what happened in the next few years.

I rest my point though. Different viewpoints on the same data. I remember another thread, not sure who mentioned it, but they said that iOS was not breaking into the enterprise, when in fact, they most certainly are. A point that I am intimately familiar with.

Remember here, we are not discussing total phone sales. These articles, and my point, is on ENTERPRISE adoption. In other words, competition to what was BB's home turf. These articles have nothing to do with the 18 year old in Bali. Maybe a year from now, Android will show some serious growth in enterprise. Maybe BB or Windows phones, will show a big uptick. But, the point of my post is, the headlines are so adamant on the writers own viewpoint, when in fact, the data is the same.

Those 2 articles are quite a joke. At least the "pro iOS" guy included some data from the underlying survey but both of those guys have an agenda that almost drowns out any point they are trying to make.

At my company, Android is beating iOS in the BYOD category. This is because of the abysmal, awful, crime-against-humanity that is our exchange profile for iOS versus our minimally invasive software load for Android devices. I had my work email on my iPhone for a few months. I found myself having to enter a "complex password" just to take pictures or send text messages to my family. Sure iOS finally came along and allowed camera function from the lock screen but by then I had already purchased an Android device "to tinker with" as well as to get that god-awful exchange profile off of my iPhone. There are a handful of corporate users who have iPhones issued by the company and it requires dispensation from on high to get one. Everybody else gets either a dumb phone, an older Android or an older Blackberry (wait, aren't older and Blackberry two ways of saying the same thing?).

But when it comes to tablets, I see 20 iPads for every Android tablet.

Well, at both my last company, and the company I have been with a few years, all secured phones, on any OS, require a password after a period of time. At my newer company, we can ourselves choose the time, anywhere from 5 minutes to One hour. I of course choose the one hour. The point is, if there is no password, its not secure. At one hour, mine is less secure than many LOL.

From anywhere I go, there are plenty of iPads, but all these 7" tablets are also starting to make their presence felt. I just say its 7" tablets, because its not easy to identify them whether its Nexus 7, any of the Asus or Acer tablets, Samsung tablets or the ubiquitous made in China tablets like Corby. I don't see a lot of Amazon tablets (if ever) in my part of the world though, and 10" Android tablets still seem to be rare. Windows 8 touch devices are non existent outside of the stores.

In our local Macy's store, there is an automated vending machine that actually vends out iPads among other things. The Minis are always gone, but there is always plenty of the big iPads, even back at the peak of the holiday season. That also tells me a preferential size shift is happening.

Either that, or a saturation point has been reached. Maybe Apple types have already bought a 10-incher and leave it at home and are now buying Minis to carry about.

Since her gall bladder surgery, my wife has been enjoying her 10-inch Android tab in preference to her laptop since she can use it while sitting more comfortably. She finds it easier to use now that her phone is also a Samsung Android.

Two things. My old eyes are too bad for my wife's 7 inch iPad mini. Secondly, I am not sure I like the predicted thinner bezel on the new iPad 10 inters. I find myself touching the screen when working on the thin bezel mini, and selecting things I don't want to select. I like bezels, or at least I find them easier to work with. (of course, I prefer physical keys to my iPhones keyboard too).
