Default Does Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 have GPS?

Strange question maybe, but I'm getting confused by terminology and want to make sure I'm not being conned by it:

In Samsung's ads they say that it's got "A-GPS", which Wikipedia says is GPS with an enhancement that helps it in areas where satellite signals are patchy. In other ads I see that it's got "GPS functionality", which to me means it works like a GPS but isn't a GPS.

Can someone tell me whether or not the Tab 2 10.1 contains true GPS that works using satellites, rather than by using cell mast positions or some other method?

Don't know, but from Samsung's listed tech specs and reliable sources like GSMARENA, it seems to have real GPS using satellites, with cell tower assistance (not instead of the real thing but as an augmentation) and even a Russian based radio system called GLONASS.

    Google (ASUS) Nexus 7, wifi+data (AT&T), Android 4.2.2, stock and un-rooted (so far )
LG Nexus 4: AT&T (Gophone), Android 4.4.2, stock and unrooted-- and probably staying that way.

I'd think you were safe, abenn

...Global Navigation Satellite System, is a radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces. It both complements and provides an alternative to the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS) and is currently the only alternative navigational system in operation with global coverage and of comparable precision. -- source: wikipedia

Thanks guys, I thought it must have the real thing, but the Samsung ads and other sources not coming out and simply saying "it's got GPS" made me suspicious.

It sounds like it has that GPS which is enhanced by the system (like Skyhook) that also uses cell-tower information to fix your position.

Thanks for the responses. I bought it yesterday and, when I opened the box, it says quite clearly on the screen-protector plastic sheet that it has "GPS" -- no confusing (for me!) jargon, just simple "GPS". Excellent!

Been using it for nearly a week now on my travels, and it's great. But how on earth does one disable its predictive text "correction" ? It may be useful on phones, where each key represents three different letters, but with a decent size keyboard it's just a pain -- inserting spaces where I don't want them, and assuming I''ve typed words wrongly when I haven't (it also sometimes inserts double inverted commas when only one is needed).

In Gingerbread (yeah, yeah, cutting edge *Not*) from the homepage, if you hit the 'menu' key, under 'Settings' there is 'Language & keyboard' -- I'd look in there

Thanks Rick. I found an on/off switch for predictive text under Language and input - Samsung keyboard - Settings. That's done the trick.
