Get the Nexus 7. Not only is it really cheap but its really fast. It chews through apps like they're butter.

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
If you get the Nexus 7, you might want the 16GB since there's no microSD slot.

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
Or you can just get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 2 for $50 more that has a microSD slot.

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
There's a back-to-school special on the Galaxy Tab 7. For $250 it includes keyboard dock, etc. Now Is a Great Time to Buy a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
Quad core with Jellybean vs. Dual core with Ice Cream Sandwich. You really are going to feel the difference in smoothness between a Nexus 7 vs. a Galaxy Tab. Not saying the Tab will be slow, but I also have 1GHz dual core tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich for my experience and comparison. With Samsung's speed tweaks, you can be quite happy with the Tab, but don't let yourself see a Nexus 7, or you will be kicking yourself in the pants. The way the screen in the Nexus 7 feels and works, there is a serious wow factor.

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
For me the SD card slot is a must-have, so the Nexus 7 isn't even on my radar -- speedy or not. Even the Nook Color has an SD slot. Sometimes I don't know what these manufacturers are thinking.

Re: My Touchpad seems to have died.
Yes, it does continue to soldier on. Still, I can see the need for some sort of replacement in the future. As I type here on it, I continue to be frustrated with onscreen keyboards. As my only "real" computer is a rather elderly laptop, I may consider killing 2 birds with one stone and give one of these ultrabook tablet/laptop things, such as the newly-revealed Windows 8 models, some consideration. In the past I would have considered their displays too small but my home computing needs have changed. Particularly I don't expect to be doing any CAD at home any time in the future.
The Touchpad may be relegated to 2nd string use like my Imagio alarm clock and my old trusty Axim.
