Barnes & Noble is providing a major firmware update for NOOK Color that contains exciting new features, addresses key customer requests and provides ongoing performance improvements. Among the enhancements, NOOK Color v1.2 now offering popular NOOK Apps™, NOOK Email™, an enhanced web experience, NOOK Kids™ Read and Play™ titles, enhanced NOOK Books, and more. The software update will be automatically downloaded to devices that are registered and connected to Wi-Fi®, beginning the week of April 25 and over the coming weeks. There’s no need for you to take any action. The software update is also available immediately via a manual download offered here. Please refer to the instructions below for the manual download. Wonder what it will do to rooted Nooks?

What's the downside as long as it works? It sounds as if they are paying attention to the way customers are using their Nooks and decided to capitalize on it in a positive way.

If they add in more functionality, most will be less tempted to much about in the innards with non-standard mods.

Sounds good in theory, anyway.

No judgment implied in my question. Just looking for information, since my only interest in a Color Nook is if I could root it and possibly install CM7.

According to the B&N forum, nook color with the 1.2 update still runs CM7 via the sd card.

SD boots are unaffected, it's unclear if this will impact how to install CM7 but I doubt it will keep people from being able to install on the internal memory.

I am going to (gulp) unroot my Nook and install the update so I can review it. Since my CM7 install will stay safely chilling on my SD card it's not a huge deal.

Several of my Gear Diary buddies are pushing me to install CM7 internally, but I want to at least test out the new stock ROM first.

I'm waiting for my coworker to get this update. I'm anxious to see what the e-edition of the StarTribune will look like. If it's (highly) readable, then I'm going to be much more interested.
