    Default Samsung's 1st UMPC

The product specs and user manual are available from the FCC website for the upcoming Samsung UMPC. I saw this while cruising around the web. Thanks Engadget!

They're telling us they don't think they're going to sell it here, and if they do ti will be $1500 or so. At that price, I don't really like the UMPC idea that much, I guess we'll have to wait and see. And for the record, the FCC application/approval doesn't mean a device will be sold here.

the thing is H_U_G_E ! nearly 9 inches wide? while i'd rather carry this umpc than a laptop, it can't compete with my TX for portability. i can't imagine using an umpc with something like graffiti or a virtual keyboard. pecking out a long email or a multi page document? i don't think so. of course it has 2 usb ports so i could lug along a keyboard and mouse. that would make all the difference. it had better not be running any of those experimental versions of windows. all i would accept is xp and xp pro, especially if i was shelling out big bucks. i would expect it to come with a small keyboard, perhaps a usb version of the palm uwk.

o well, those are my ramblings...

my goal is to get rid of my laptop altogether. i never again want to own a desktop pc that is bigger than a mac mini. the umpc is a step in that direction. but it is no threat to the pda or smartphone as of yet.

Altough not technically part of the UMPC rollout I've got my eye on the Dualcor cPC. IT's a PDA/Tablet Hybrid. The Companies president hopes to hit a $1500USD price point as well.

Yes. I actually did the calculations, and this thing is 6.1 times the volume of my Axim. I actually had to go through the math to convince a couple of people on another board that no, the marketing hype about them being just as small as PPCs was NOT correct.

Hmmm. (UMPC for $1500) or (PC for $700 and PDA for $400).

I have to admit, I'm totally digging this thing. I know much has been said and I'm well aware of it's pros and cons.......but I'm really wanting one to play with. I hereby wish to start the "Buy Scoobie a UMPC" fund. Please contact me for details.

$1100USD and carry them both or $1500USD and carry a fat PSP?

That's a tough one. I'll think about it
