Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
Well, after a few clicks in my brain I found out that it wasn't Kinoma's application that caused my problem of stream lag. Nor was it my processor. It turned out to be how much RAM you have and the more you have, the better for streaming
.
No, it doesn't mean if you have a 512MB SD Card or a 4GB SD Card the streaming won't lag anymore, instead it will do it even more. I tested a 10 minute video using first the RAM memory to stream and I had no problems, but when I started using my SD card to stream.....well it ended up being like a Powerpoint Presentation
.
I don't know how this is, but thinking so because it is easier and faster for my TX to access the RAM memory instead of my SD Card. I will try to contact Kinoma and see if they can fix this so we all can use our SD Cards instead to watch whatever video without the the sketchiness.Current Device: HTC One X

Re: Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
yorker, do you mean that you "save and open" to the memory instead of the card to get better performance? I haven't really noticed a difference, but will run some tests today.
I usually stream video from my PC's tuner in combo with www.orb.com using .asx codec and get good results. Which video format are you streaming? This Signature Line Intentionally Left Blank

Re: Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
I download to Internal Storage. When you go to preferences, you will see the "Download to:" drop-down box and thats where you select either internal or external memory source.
I always stream from Google Video and Youtube, so its FLV.Current Device: HTC One X

Re: Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
The "Download To:" is directly related to the "Prefer download to streaming" checkbox. If you uncheck it, you won't download the streams automatically. Try unchecking that box and see how your streams perform.

Re: Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
Here's from Kinoma's help:
Select "Prefer download to streaming" to override the default preference for streaming playback. When "Prefer download to streaming" is selected, Kinoma Player 4 EX uses progressive download whenever possible. When using progressive download, make sure to have a memory card with plenty of free space in your device.
Note: Some web servers and media file formats support only one playback method – either progressive download or streaming. In these cases, the "Prefer download to streaming" setting is ignored.
When using the progressive download playback method for internet media items, the "Download to" menu selects where the media data is stored. Select "internal storage" to force all downloads to be stored in device memory and "external storage" to force all downloads to be stored on a removable storage card. This Signature Line Intentionally Left Blank

Re: Answer to Kinoma Streaming problem
I didn't have much time to play with this, but there is definately a difference in performance between internal and external memory. I haven't noticed a difference if you uncheck "Prefer download to streaming". I probably won't have much time to do this until next week, either. Let me know what you find out from Kinoma.

Here is what they said at first:
And then the second time, because I did not know what data rate was:Customer Support <support@kinoma.com>:
Qaisar,
Glad to hear that you are enjoying our products. What size SD card are
you using? I've heard of a similar problem with 4GB SD cards. To my
knowledge, Palm has not claimed compatibility with 4 GB SD cards. Do you
have the same problem with smaller SD cards?
What is the data rate of the files with this behavior?
Regards,
Kinoma Support
How do I find the data rate?Qaisar,
I am referring to the data rate of the file (i.e. Video frames per
second, video bit rate, audio bit rate, audio sample rate).
For smooth MP4 playback on the T|X, we recommend the following:
Video Frames Per Second: 15 FPS
Video Bit Rate: 240 kbps
Audio Bit Rate: 48 kbps
Audio Sample Rate: 44.100 kHz
If the settings of the file are too high, I recommend using a tool such
as Kinoma Producer 4 to encode the file with compatible settings. You
can download a free limited trial version of Kinoma Producer 4 from:
