Dissed Apple and the Galaxy Tab by associating them with stone tablets but divulged absolutely nothing about the Moto device.

I know it's a teaser but seems like a lot of ad money spent for little gain.

I dont think it cost them that much at all...it looks computer-generated, and it's getting the technorati excited for CES, which is the best Moto can do...

And it told you something if you knew about Android...that little buzzing bee at the end means the Moto tablet will be running Honeycomb, the not-yet released version of Android that's supposed to be optimized for tablets. That's why they went through so much trouble dissing the Tab.

And the truth is, if they were announcing this thing in the middle of summer at the own personal Moto event, they probably wouldn't have such an elaborate teaser. But it's being announced at a very weird time for Moto:

    1) It's at CES, and they need to generate buzz so they can attract eyeballs. Everyone and their brother has a story at CES, and Moto needs theirs to sound exciting.
    2) They need to get this tablet announced ASAP because it's likely their biggest carrier partner (VZW) is going to partner with Apple...Moto needs a new product to get existing and new customers excited.
    3) They need to beat HTC to the tablet market and they need to not allow Samsung to dominate with the Tab.
    4) They're about to split form the set-top box business and become Motorola Mobility...and they need to do it with a bang.

Considering all that, and considering that they want this to be a huge announcement (so no details until their CES presentation) I think it's an effective teaser. It certainly shows Motorola has a lot of confidence in their mystery device, and knowing for sure it's going to run honeycomb it definitely has my interest.
