    Default How is Input Done?

I am thinking about getting one of these units - quick question: how do you input things into Outlook - ie: a task or an appointment? Is it all done with the keyboard? Is that a pain or does it work well? I assume there is no touch screen.

    Thanks!

You can either do it on your desktop and it will transfer over to your phone when you sync (much easier) or if you create them on your phone, you have to use the keypad. Multiple presses of the same key give you different letters and symbols, ie. pressing -2- would cycle through - A - B - C - 2. It is a bit of a pain but it works.

There's no touchscreen. Data input away from Desktop is via keypad.

    That's a good example of multi-press.

A quicker way (IMO) for entering most words is T9, where you press the button only ONCE for each letter you want to type.

To type 'calendar', you would press 2253637 and the phone would match that against words in its dictionary. If it matches more than one word, you press '0' to cycle thru them until the one you want comes up.

The only time I use multi-press is when I'm typing in weird URLs for Internet Explorer (words that aren't in the dictionary, like MSN or TMOBILE), or username/passwords.

After a few times of using T9, I think you'd be surprised how quickly you can type stuff into these phones. (T9 is on most Smartphones now, not just MS) ...

Lack of a touch screen is something that would prevent me from buying one of these phones. I have T9 on my LG VX4400 and it's ok but I still prefer hunt-n-peck or even grafiti for text entry. I suppose Smart Phones really are not meant for text entry, just for looking things up and making tiny notes. I want my next PDA to be PocketPC based but I have to say I like the grafiti area on Palm based PDAs/phones.

I'd be for a touch/graffiti area too, but not at the expense of the size. I don't see how they can do that.

A guy I was sitting next to a few hours ago happened to have an mpx200. It was sweet. Just about the same size as my vx4400. Wow. As for a grafiti area I would think they can squeeze in a 12x12 mm area somewhere, right? Samsung added a true Palm grafiti area to their phone which is admittedly a bit wider than the Motorola.
