Also, I see there are some ATTWS specific apps, images, and icons. I wonder if you are stuck with those as well even when unlocked.
Unlocking the phone just gives you the ability to use another carriers service (like T-Mo or Cingular), ... it doesn't change the ROM image which has the apps and images in it.

AristoBrat-has your phone shipped yet?
Amazon's "Ships Within:" for the MPx200 changed today from 2-3 days to 24 hrs so I'm hoping mine will ship tonight or tomorrow and I will have it tomorrow or the day after. I'm going the unlock route and using the SIM card that I've been using in my Orange SPV (I can't wait for the MPx...I love SmartPhone but hate the SPV's hardware).

As of 2pm this afternoon, it hadn't shipped yet.Originally posted by Nikhil

From what I've gathered from talking to the folks, it should have shipped Monday, but they had a 'technical problem' that made them stop shipping EVERYTHING (cellular related) for 24 hours, so my junk should go out today.
SHOULD -- they couldn't guarantee it.
:: heavy sigh ::

I hope my order doesn't get delayed. From when I placed the order, the quoted delivery date was 10/30-10/31, so I hope it arrives in that time period.
My poor iPAQ 4150 has received no attention since I began anticipating my Moto...the SPV replaced my iPAQ for a while until I became unhappy with the screen and performance. The MPx200 should be the solution

Well, my phone shipped today and I'll have it tomorrow in the AM...then I need to unlock it through GSMPhoneSource, pop in my T-Mobile SIM, and pray it works. I'll post my thoughts regarding the MPx200 in comparison to the SPV that I've had for 4 months.

Lucky.

It's now 10PM EST Wednesday 10/29/2003 and here is what my Amazon status shows:
Items shipping soon:
Delivery estimate: Oct 26, 2003 1 of Motorola MPX200 Smartphone - Next Generation
Anyhow, I left work really early, drove up to DC and snagged one from CompUSA. "Bought" the unlock code around 5:30PM EST and haven't gotten the email yet, which is kinda frustrating, but I've got plenty of stuff to do organizing my contacts, installing games, etc.
I'm VERY impressed by the screen and overall build quality. It's amazingly simple to nagivate, and the speaker is a lot louder than I ever imaged (well, for playing MP3s, anyways). Jurys still out for performance .. most of the time it's snappy, but with Windows Media player running in the background, I've had the phone really bog down.
Nikhil, I'm interested in what you think compared to the SPV. The next SPV (with 2003 and BlueTooth) looks pretty awesome, but I like the flip phone factor better.Currently: BlackBerry 7100t

yeah, WMP is a resource hog...at least it works, though.
Even without testing the unit out, I'm sure that the unit is faster than my SPV...anything must be faster than my SPV (lol). They both have a TI processor, the SPV at 132MHz and the MPx200 at 200MHz, so that should bode well.
How are the included headphones with MP3s? I have a converter/adapter from PC-Mobile for my SPV (the adapter is awesome...it's a retractable stereo 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so I use my Sony earbuds with my phone...the adapter has a microphone and answer/end button as well)...I hope it works with the MPx200.
Despite the new SPV coming out, I think flip is the better form factor for me...I saw a mock unit at the ATTW store and it (MPx) was tiny. I like having the external display.
The main gripes I had with the SPV seem to have been generally fixed, though I won't know till tomorrow:
-Buttons on the original SPV are horrendous...the Motorola looks much better.
-Lack of accessories...even when I went to London, there were absolutely no accessories in the store. To get them here, that's a joke.
-The original SPV's screen...well, the e100 answered that...
-Size..I don't like candy bar phones because there is no way to..."shrink" them when in your pocket.
-Battery life...I've heard better numbers than I get with my SPV, though not by much...anything is better than nothing, though.
-The ROM in the MPx200 sounds less buggy.
How are you finding the OS in general? How is the menu speed?

You can change the images (and just about every other detail on the phone) i've totally customized my phone, skin, screens, banners, splash screens, etc.. Awesome phone, light and feature packed.
Try here for all the info on customizing you phone, they even have some .cabs that will rebrand you phone to tmobile.

Does anyone have the URL for the site that can unlock?

I've looked hard and long at the phone, but since it isn't triband I won't have much use for it (travel internationally too much). Otherwise the form factor, the Motorola quality, etc. make it soooo tempting.
I want to know how the clamshell design effects PDA-based usage. I love just picking up my Tanager to check on my appointments/reminders, time, etc. Is it a hassle to constantly have to open and close the phone to check reminders? Or perhaps you don't use your MPx200 for PDA functions as much as I use my Tanager. I've found my Tanager to be a very functional PDA and phone combo, and am just curious about the usability of the clam shell. I personally prefer the clam shell on a phone, but I'm not so sure on one that I rely upon for PDA functions.
Sorry if I'm rambling! Thanks for any feedback.A Brighthand.com PocketPC Moderator

I don't find it inconvenient at all (I use it to check my schedule all day). I actually prefer it this way so it doesn't hit buttons by accident (I've made calls to people by just having buttons pressed in my pocket on my SPV).
I find it really convenient just having the time there on the external display as well (I'm not the type who wears a watch)...and for PDA functions, it's only a matter of a flip...takes a second.
