Default SD Card Read Only - m515

I tried using a Sandisk 16MB SD Card I received with my camera in my m515. I get a message saying the card is read only. The Palm cannot format the card for this reason. I checked and set the write protect slider. The camera can record photos on this card. Why does the Palm call it Read Only?

Have you downloaded and installed the File Manager Update?

Yes, after reading the thread about the hanging 128 MB. No joy though.

It might sound obvious, and you might have already tried this, but did formatting the card in the Palm first, throwing some apps or files on there to make sure it worked, and then using it in the camera work at all?

Thanks. I tried. But the Palm won't let me format the card. I tried via the menu in Card Info. I get a dialog box which says, "This card is read-only and cannot be formatted".
I can view pictures taken on the Digital cam, but not delete them. It says "Unable to delete the file. Please ensure the memory card is unlocked."
    And it is unlocked.

If there are any photos on there you want to save transfer them to the camera's memory. On the palm, download Filez - it'll let you select the card, and just go through and delete EVERYTHING on it (or if you have access to a card reader, try it on the pc). Might work then.

Can't think of anything else it might be - the card in mine is Sandisk also (although a MMC) and I never had any problems. Worst case, if it's still under warranty, and after deleting everythign it still won't format, suggest returning it for a new one, and put in the palm first before using it in the camera...

Might you have accidentally moved the lock tab on the SD card to read only?

I seem to recall a recent post in which a user had a card with a loose lock slide switch. When inserting the card in the Palm, the switch would move to "Lock," rendering it read only, then back when removing the card. Tough to figure out! You might try using a small piece of tape to secure the lock switch and try it. Just be sure you don't get the card stuck in the slot due to the thickness of the tape! I wouldn't think that would be a problem, but if it makes the card overly tight on insertion, be careful...
