Burn marks on my m515 screen
I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have only owned the Palm m515 for 3 weeks, bought through a third party product company named Supra. I had to purchase through them because they had the software we needed for work and we were all changing over to the m515. After 2 days of use, my screen formed a burnt mark at the top in the shape of a half circle. It is brown in color just like a flame would cause on glass and you can not see anything on the screen underneath it. Eventually it disappeared but came back twice. The palm still worked fine but I callled tech support at Supra and they had no idea what I was talking about but offered to send a new unit. I received the new unit about 5 days ago and lo & behold the same type of burn mark appeared again today. After about 3 hours it disappeared. Does anyone know what causes this and will there be long term damage to my screen if this continues to happen. I live in Florida and I am in & out of my car all day into the heat, so I did'nt know if that would cause it but when it happened today I had been in my air conditioned office for quite a few hours, so it was not subjected to the heat. Since it wasn't purchased directly through Palm, we need to direct all inquiries to Supra and they are clueless. I hope someone out there could give me some insight and suggestions on what I should do. Thanks.

You didn't by chance have it next to anything highly magnetic, did you?

Is it happening to the others with the same type of unit?

No one else has had the same problem in my office that I know of. When you asked about "highly magnetic" what exactly did you mean? like credit cards? The palm is in a case I bought and the only thing near it is my cell phone, no credit cards, no cards at all with magnetic strips.

I was thinking more along the lines of a large magnet. Maybe something along the lines of a speaker magnet.

No, nothing like that, at least I don't think so, since I'm not quite sure what a speaker magnet is.

Speakers have magnets in them. The larger the speaker, the larger the magnet. I was just thinking that there was a possibility that you were placing your m515 somewhere near a large magnet, such as on top of a large speaker.

Seeing as how your support team has replaced your unit, did they also replace the chargerstand and transformer. Is your unit getting warm or hot to the touch while in the cradle. If so, you may have a defective charger/transformer.

I am a personal assistant for a Realtor who uses an m515 from Supra. She is on her third handheld. She started out with m505 and had two, both had considerable problems. The handhelds from Supra are rebuilt handhelds and not new. Supra does, however, have a great policy guaranteeing the handheld and replacing it after all efforts to correct the problem have been exhausted. Personally, I have recently upgraded to a Zire71 and am much happier with the screen definition and memory. I am hoping Supra will upgrade soon.

From your description and function when it appears, I would suggest that the digitizer is seperating.
Palm uses three different types of digitizers, it is possible that these units have a damaged batch.
The digitizer lies over the color screen but under the plastic screen you contact your stylus to. There is a gel film between the plastic screen and the digitizer, and if this seperates, the digitizer will not record screen touches correctly and the dispaly from the back side could produce the effect you visually observe.
Return for replacement is best option.Welcome to Brighthand
