No, SUDS doesn't affect serial operations - and the PPK uses the serial port.

breakdown
so my palm may still have SUDS even if the ppk doesnt work?
Hey, can you break this down/
ir data is transfered through serial
data from ppk is also through serial
and data in a hotsync is through...???
do you mean that full duplex stuff such as hot syncs and use of a modem...are what would be affected?

The only things that are affected by SUDS are USB HotSyncs. The problem is in the USB chip on the handheld. All serial transfers of data (HotSync with a serial cradle/cable, connection to a modem, connection to a keyboard, IR connections, etc.) will still work.

So glad I STILL don't do enough research on these purchases.....
Although I have experienced SUDS and GLC, and anticipate continuing to experience same because I live in one of the most static-laden places in the US, I have to say PALM has been very straightforward about the issue. In fact, today customer support told me to come to this site and get to know the issues and how to safeguard against them in the future.
I hope these issues don't drive me insane, but I know one thing for sure..... I outweigh this sucker by quite a bit, and if I just wave a hammer over it from time to time (which is my favorite way to explain to my computer that it doesn't want to anger me), I have every confidence I will be able to control the situation.
Well, I'm off to shuffle my feet in the shag carpet......

M505 hotsynch ... #s
Not only did I pay $400.00 for my orginal M505. I recently replaced it for $75.00 (per Palm warranty requirements). The original went back and forth to Palm so many times I have lost count. A product that will not last 8 months seems doomed. My new replacement (refurbished I'm sure) has stopped synching. From this thread it appears to be a SUDS problem. I am trying the dot 3 method.
My question is (how/where) may there be instructions on using the serial cable which seems to be a solution.
You may have heard the story about the guy who had a 500 lb rock on his back. He walked around all bent over and everything was extremely hard to accomplish. When someone replied he should get rid of the rock. He replied... "I would like to but I paid good money for the Rock!"
I know how he feels..

There are no instructions as such. Just buy a serial cradle, plug it in, and it ought to work (you may have to enable serial connections on HotSync Manager, but that's it).Originally posted by bnp

Add me to the club...
I haven't been on this thread before, but have reported my experiences on another. Seems like I have a lot of company. I purchased my M515 in September and it worked just fine until I traveled in early November. On my return, my Palm no longer synced. I thought maybe security at the airport was the cause. After trying many things with our IT guys and Palm that didn't work (including a hard reset and a new cradle), they sent me a "new" one -- after three shipment delays because they were "backordered." After puting up a stink, they miraculously shipped one that night. A week later, it, too, stopped syncing (I get an error message that says the Palm can't communicate with my computer). I'm now waiting for a third one and shipment has been delayed twice already. They're no longer taking "orders" for replacements because they're so backordered. I tried using a serial cradle on someone else's computer and that didn't work either. I do have an enhanced cradle.

Add me to the club (continued)
Continuation...
I'm so frustrated. After reading everyone else's messages, I don't think I'll ever get satisfaction from Palm. Isn't there something we can all do as a group? I would never get another one. I wish I had known about these problems before I bought it. I'm afraid to try the battery drain fix, just in case it doesn't work. Since the serial cradle didn't seem to work either, I'm not so sure that SUDS is my problem. I also don't think I have a lot of static in my work environment -- I never get shocks in my office.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or do I just wait for the next one, keep entering my appointments, etc. manually and pray a lot? I thought that maybe one of the third party applications I had downloaded was the problem, but now I don't think so. When you talk to tech support, they never even mention the whole static thing. They have to know this is going on.
Sorry to ramble so--I'm just fed up.

yea i know what u mean. I submitted my problem (no sync) by email. and they dont mention static.. just routine stuff. so now i have to find someone who i can sync with to see if its the palm or the computer
...
oh, and
do you mean that if you try this, it is possible that the palm will not turn back on?I'm afraid to try the battery drain fix, just in case it doesn't work.
