lifedrive resets when i try to use wifi
Hi
I have had my Lifedrive for a few weeks and
WiFi worked perfect until yesterday. Without
having installed any new applications it
suddenly started to reset when trying to
access a wireless network (which has worked
well earlier).
Now the Lifedrive always resets when trying to turn WiFi on
or access WiFi preferences.
I get this message after reset when trying to
turn WiFi on (by tapping the WiFi symbol at
the bottom of the screen):
WiFi Glue Set info.c,
Line: 402, Radio is on but the f/w is not loaded
Trying to open the Wi-fi preferences it resets and gives this message:
Select-palmos.c,
Line: 34,
KAL Semaphore Signal
I have tried the various resets (soft, hard,
hard secure). Also reinstalled the Lifedrive
Update 2 after a hard reset. Nothing seems to
help.
Is it possible in any way to get 100% back to
the sate the unit was in when was turned on
for the first time?

Turlough12 - thans for pointing me to that
thread. I tried the NetChaser but it did not
make any difference to reest the WiFi prefs
from NetChaser.
I have tried to hard reset the Lifedrive three
times in a row now as suggested by Palm Support
but that neither changes the behavior.
According to Palm Support it is not possible to
revert to the initial state of the Lifedrive when
it was unused.
Is the only option left to send the Lifedrive in
for repair?
One thing I have not tried yet is the Extended
Hard Reset. Doesnt soud like it will help either but...
I am very thankful for any suggestions or hints
on this. Sending it in for repair would definately
be a last resort. And what if the problem turns
up again? It would feel more reassuring to
find a way to resolve it without sending it for
repair.
holvoetn - Thanks!

I likewise had this problem and I suspect any reset or repair won't help. What worked for me was to install the Palm upgrade 2.0 found here.
In case, for some reason, the upgrade doesn't completely solve your WiFi reset problem.... and it didn't for me, check the version of WiFilib (under your app launcher tap menu, Info, Version.) You should have only 1.0.7. I had 1.0.7 and 1.0.6 (or was it 1.0.5?) So.... I stumbled across
these steps to eliminating the extraneous WiFiLib. Check out either SoSII's or jfme's solution. After I eliminated the older WiFilib my LifeDrive has been incredibly stable.
Good luck,
Frank

Hi fgol and thank you for your answer!
I have tried doing a fresh install of the Update 2.0
after a hard reset. I can see WiFiLib 1.0.7 is there
and no other version.
I have talked to Palm Support and have now
sent in the LifeDrive for repair. In reality it seems
like they will send a replacement unit.
Too bad this should be so hard to fix. I feel somewhat
uneasy concerning that the same problem might
turn up on the new LifeDrive...Don't think I will
install the Update 2.0 at least if it is not already
there ;-)

Welcome to the board. For future reference the Palm, Inc. site has a page to troubleshoot wifi issues:
palm.com/us/support/guides/wi-fi/.

Re: lifedrive resets when i try to use wifi
I have experience the same problem and I think I got it fixed. not nice but it works:
1- First I have tried a Hard Reset without data erase:
Amounted to no change.
2- I tried installing NetChaser, demo version.
Did not do any good either.
3- Tried removing a few WiFi apps such as maps Google and Opera Mini.
Did not help either.
4- I was at wits ends and almost decided to toss it away and get a new machine. Then I decided to re-install the update 2.0 from Palm.
Surprise, surprise. It's started to work again! On top it solved my battery problem (it would not keep the charge or charge fully to a "green" signal). I re-installed Opera Mini, maps Google and also add Palm VNC to access my Linux desktop. After a few days of operation it works perfectly.
Hope this helps someone else.
regards,
MGL

Re: lifedrive resets when i try to use wifi
I also have the same problem, but nothing has worked so far... and I can't get a replacement without major $$$ because my unit is refurbished.
I suspect that WiFiLib 1.0.7 (the latest version bundled in the Lifedrive Update 2.0) is responsible for the problem, but can't get the earlier versions (1.0.6 & 1.0.5). They are nowhere to be found, and of course they were deleted when I installed the update
.
I would really appreciate it if somebody could send me a link to those files!!
Thanks,
Vikkor
