    Unhappy Hotsync "Port in use by another app"

    History: I have been successfully doing hot-sync to Outlook with my IBM laptop at work via a BT PC Card and THEN going home and using the Cable connection to HS with my desktop Outlook. For MONTHS.

    I also send/rec SMS through my Motorla Razr using BT from the LD.

    Today's Problem:

    Today, I sync'd with my home desktop via CABLE before leaving for work. Arriving at work I got the "unable to initiate hotsync operation because the port is in use by another application" mesage. I've seen this once or twice before but after re-booting the laptop I was back in business. (not sure of the sequence for success)

    I've been unable to break the error code link to HS with the laptop and NOW I can't register the Razr any longer. The Razr seems to register fine, but after getting ALMOST all the way through the LD says "cancelling Motorola Phone Service".

    BTW, I CAN send a memo to the laptop via BT and can successfuly register the phone with the laptop.

    After work I'll see if I can sync via cable again and maybe re-load some of the LD patches of recent vintage.

    Any OTHER ideas?

    Thanks!

    Tim

    This happened twice w/ my m515, never yet with my LifeDrive. Both times a reset fixed it as the handheld port, not the PC, was not released by the last app to use it. In the old Palms there is only one UART (controller) that is shared by all of the comms, IR BT USB, not sure about the newer Palms.

    (if this does not work for you, feel free to mutter a curse in my general direction, then post back and someone smarter will jump on my fumble)

    Smile Better now...

    Thanks Josser,

    I guess my resets (multiple) didn't release the the LD port. But, running another cable sync at home did. I brought the laptop with BT home and it syncs fine now too. Cell phone BT is back up also.

    Seemed to be just a hitch in its git-along.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I just had the same problem crop up, after successfully syncing via Bluetooth many times, mine just quit with the same error. I'll play around with it and see if I can find a solution similar to yours.
    IBM Workpad -> Palm III - > Palm V -> Palm Vx -> Palm M515 -> T|T2 -> T|T3 -> LifeDrive -> iPAQ 210 -> ???
