Angry WindowsMediaCenter + LifeDrive = brick

I recently purchased a new home PC. A Windows Media Center edition pc.

After trying to get my Lifedrive to work with the machine, it turns out that Palm does not support the Microsoft Window Media Center edition OS

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get my new PC to recognize and sync my Lifedrive?

Yes, formatting your PC's HD and installing Win XP...

Believe it or not, that was actually Palm's response.

Maybe it's because I have Windows MCE 2004 (not 2005), but I haven't had any trouble installing or syncing my LD with my PC. The only problem I've noticed, which is a known issue, is that MCE doesn't work well with Drive Mode (it isn't supported, according to Palm - I don't know why, as all MCE 2004 appears to be is XP Professional with the Media Center as an add-on application).

Odd. I run a Windows MCE 2005 and I have not had any problems. I have burned through 4 LifeDrives so far so I'm more skeptical of the LD than the MCE.

Try uninstalling all LifeDrive and Palm Software from your computer and reinstalling. That may help.

Many have reported little trouble establishing hotsync with their Palm units and WMC.

If you tried connecting your handheld to the platform before the Palm desktop software was installed, it is most likely the wrong driver is assigned to the device ID of the LD when detected.

To correct you will ned to monitor the device manager/hardware listing, attempt to hotsync, the list should refresh including the palm handheld, select this line, right click/properties, update driver, and manually point to the \Palm folder on the driver search.

If your USB ports have USB 2 devices attached, it may require disconnecting to establish a good hotsync as well. If USB hub is used, and USB 2 capable, then by-pass and make sure cable connected directly.

I am certain you will find a combination, as mentioned, the heart of WMC is XP, so eliminating the conflict is all to do for success.
