    Default Lifedrive/Win 7/Photo's

I know Lifedrive is not compatible with Win 7 as far as syncing, but is there any way to get photos off of the unit without using the software. Like bluetooth or something similar?

I am asking for my dad who upgraded his pc without knowing that it would no longer be compatible, and at this point he just wants to retrieve his pictures.

    Thanks,
    Sandy

You can use bluetooth to transfer files, or easier, save the photos to an SD card, then use a card reader to copy the files to any PC using any OS. You can get a card reader for ~$10, which will read SD cards on any PC which has a USB port.

Actually, not only would SGosnell's method work, you should also be able to use 'Drive Mode' on the LifeDrive, which turns it into a USB-drive device (like a USB key drive) and simply use Windows Explorer to move/copy the photos. This does not rely on having Windows 7 compatible with the LifeDrive or the Palm Desktop.

I'm not 100% sure what the deal is with my dad's Lifedrive at this point. I haven't used a Palm product in a long time so it's taking me a while to understand what he is trying to do, plus he is 72 yrs old! (no offense dad if you read this!).

Today he said that his Lifedrive crashed around June 2010 and a lot of the photo's became corrupt and he was no longer able to sync to his pc. Then he has a pc crash and purchased the Win 7 machine just recently. I guess he's been having syncing issues with it for a while up to that point.

I initially asked him why he didn't just use an SD card too, to transfer the pics, but he told me that the pc wasn't recognizing them that way. I didn't realize that they were really corrupted from the crash.

I don't know what bluetooth stack he has (I am not a pc user so I'm not sure where to look for that), but I know he said he just bought an bluetooth adapter/dongle...but I think he probably already has bluetooth built into his new pc. It's some sort of HP touchscreen all-in-one monitor/processor unit.

He lives in a different state than I so I can't physically help him, but I am going to suggest he look into using the "Drive Mode". I guess there are other documents (excel, word files) that he'd like to try to access and remove.

Is there anything on the market similar to this that he could update to?

Thanks for all your help and ideas.

The pictures may or may not be on an SD card. They could be on the internal drive, and recoverable. It's impossible to say without accessing the Lifedrive. Using drive mode will let him see if they are available. It requires connecting the Lifedrive to a PC via USB, and it may not be possible in Win7, I don't know because I've never used it.

    Twingirlz, welcome to Brighthand!

Have you actually tried to install all the necessary software for your LifeDrive on Windows 7? Well, as far as it goes, I installed the Palm bundle on Win7 and my mom's Tungsten E syncs good. The only thing that doesn't work is Palm QuickInstall, but there's a workaround for that. OK, I haven't verified that the pictures get synced from the handheld to the PC, but I could do that along the weekend. As for the rest, Stan's descriptions totally fill the subject.
