Default How to replace Jornada 568's digitizer?

The digitizer on my Jornada 568 has begun to fail. In the lower portion of the screen it's impossible to align properly, so it clicks several millimeters away from where I tap the screen. When I try writing with the Character Recognizer it often returns the wrong character.

I have picked up another 568 that isn't working, but with a digitizer that works. Does anyone know how to replace this component? I haven't ever opened up a Pocket PC and I'll only have one shot at this. I want to do it right.

    Thanks!
    Bart

Thanks. I contacted them and they'll do it for $45. I'd rather avoid spending the money, though.

I have just bid on Ebay for a jornada 568 "for parts". I will try to repair it and will have to open it completly. Perhaps in two weeks (one week to receive the jornada!) I will be able to give to you some indications on what to do (or not to do!).
I have allready "debricked" a jornada and had to solder some connections on the motherboard (see http://discussion.brighthand.com/sho...threadid=96487 ), but now it works very well and I don't want to risk it...

Sounds great. I haven't soldered anything in the past 40 years. It sounds scary to me.

In your case, you certainly don't have to solder, just small connectors to move, I suppose.
So be quiet for the following 40 years and continue to keep your health away from the toxic fumes of soldering...

    Hello Bart,

    Have you seen this link?
    http://www.pocketpcman.com/CDs/hpCD/560series/560.htm
I don't know if these informations are relevant (but cheap)
I have received my jornada for part(it's a 565) but the inside glass of the screen is broken (not the digitizer side).
I have begun to dismantle the hardware but hesitate at the main connector of the screen. Lack of inspiration...

Howewer, could somebody tell me where I can find a cheap screen?

    Regards,
    Marc

Yes, I happened upon that site, downloaded the instructions (for $6) and did the repair. Thanks.
