Emergency Backup
Does anyone know where I can find detailed information on how the emergency backup software works? The manual doesn?t really explain much. I?m beginning to rely on my Jornada and can?t take a chance of loosing my files. Thanks

Try calling the HP help line. I've had to go through a hard reset or two, and it will prompt you when you power up and ask whether you want to restore the info from backup.

Don't know how much I can help on the specifics, but here's the extent of my knowlege (based on hard lessons learned).
Emergency backup is intended for just that purpose -- backing up in case of an emergency -- batteries about to give out etc. If you do an emergency backup, after you replace the batteries (or whatever) then you should be able to 'restore' the entire contents of the backup when your machine comes back to life. Note -- it should be the 'first thing' you do when you come back to life.
In the case of the 'normal' backup, this is mis-named in my opinion, because it, too, is also only useful for restoring your machine after a hard-reset. There is no functionality to restore just one file or any portion of the backup. It's all or nothing, and if, during a restore, it finds anything but a blank machine (i.e. after a hard reset) the restore will fail.
I wonder if the B-Square people are still around. They used to have a backup which acted like a real backup should -- even handled the CF cards, if you backed up to your PC!/drt

I regularly use the hp backup utility which shipped with my 568 to back up to a CF card. The recovery with "backup all" has worked flawlessly every time I have done a hard reset. There is also a "backup databases only" option.
