    Angry Microsoft Reader 2.0

I have a 520 with the verson of Microsoft Reader that came with it, v 1.0. I have recently started reading e-books with it and also with my laptop. I needed to down load a copy of it for my laptopa so I did so from Microsoft. I then downloaded some e-books and found out that they are encripted and can olny be read with v2.0 of Reader. I tried to download v2.0 to my 520 and found out that it wont run on CE only on pocket pc 2002. Does any body know of a way to read the encripted .lit files on a 520. I sent microsoft a nasty e-mail about this because I think it is rude of them to force you to purchase a new pda just to be able to run thier new os. I didn't have any problems running the new version of reader on my old os on my desktop ( win 98 ) or my lap top ( win 98 se) witch are both running an older os. I am about totaly fed up with Microsoft and ready to buy a mac.

I tried seraching on Yahoo and Google and couldn't find any file converters to change the encripted files to non encripted ones. Apperently they think that we are all pirates and are going to rip them off and not pay for the content.

Don't count on microsoft upgrading reader.
Try the Palm Reader, and get some other ebooks.
Also, there is TombRaider, also a new ebook reader.

Not to be a smart a**, but it's TomeRaider not TombRaider. TombRaider is a game staring Laura Croft. Also, I have tried TomeRaider, and I was far from impressed, I think it's wel concieved, but poorley executed, maybe a few updates and it will work well, but for now, stick to the Palm reader, Microsoft Reader or Adobe PDF (good format, not much content as far as books though...).

    Default 548/547 diff?

not to be off the subject by alot, but i was wondering something.... I got the 548 right? And then i saw this magazine which isnt old that is selling the 547 for like 140 or something like that. And it also comes with a novatel modem. What is the difference between the 547 and the 548 because if theres no difference then im returning the 548. Please answer me soon, thanks!

I almost hate to respond to something this off-topic, it realy should be it's own thread.

There is only 1 difference between the 548 and the 547, the cable to hook it to your computer. The 548 comes standard with a USB cradle and serial cable. The 547 only comes with a serial cradle, fine for most users. Some very new and poorly thought out computers don't have standard serial, but almost all computers do, so it shouldn't be a problem. The 547 and 548 have realy dropped in price, but if you can get a 5478 with a novatel for only $140.00, I'd say take it. Just be aware that the 54x can only be upgraded through compact flash cards. You can't read encripted ebooks or play video in WMP, there's 3rd party programs to do it though, so no biggy. Besides, if you allready have a548, you probably know this.

*note the 547 CAN use a USB cable, it just doesn't come with one.
