    Default File transfer

Whats the best way to transfer files to a J525?
I'm currently using ActiveSync but when transfering large files(MP3s) I'm dropping the connection towards the end and having to restart. Are there any other alternatives, applications etc. Also, Im having to transfer the files to the RAM and then move them to the CF. Unable to copy the files from PC directly to the CF. Any help/tips welcome. Cheers Sparky.

    Sparky,
My J525 came with another disk that had Music Match Jukebox on it. Under "FILE" you can export the playlist directly to the Jornada. I have had no connection problems moving MP3's back and forth.

Exclamation To send files to a CF card

To send a file to a CF directly....

1.) Open ActiveSync and make sure that you're connected.
2.) Click on the 'Explore' icon on the toolbar of ActiveSync.
3.) When the folder pops up, you are in the 'My Documents' folder in RAM of your pocket PC. Click on the icon/folder that says 'My Pocket PC'.
4.) You will now be sent to the root directory of your device. If you have a CF inserted, it can be accessed by Clicking on the folder 'Storage Card', if there is no card, it will not appear.

The 'Storage Card' folder is where you want to save files onto a CF card. Also, if you want to install programs onto the CF card....
When installing/removing programs from your Pocket PC, uncheck the box that says install in the default directory. Then, when you install programs, you can have the choice of Main Memory (RAM) or Storage Card.

You can also use Windows Media Player 7 or greater to transfer songs to your PDA. Just click on the tab that says Portable Device in Media Player, and if you are synced, it should recoqnize the storage card.

No joke...the serial Activesync connection to the J525 cannot compare with the speed of an inexpensive USB CF card reader for your notebook or desktop PC.

Large file transfers are quick, and you can even use the PC's Defrag utilities to defrag the CF card data, which sometimes helps multimedia files play more smoothly (although no one is quite sure WHY that is...)

Default How to restore my HP548 backup on PPC of another brand??

    Howdy folks,

As I couldn't upgrade my beloved HP Jornada 548 to WinCE 4.9 (aka "Pocket PC 2002"), I was forced to sell it.
Before selling it, I made a backup on a CF card, that I still have here.

My question is: After buying a new Pocket PC (I'm really looking at a non-HP unit this time, I don't like the HP-568, as it has only 1 slot), how do I restore my backup on a non-HP Jornada machine??

Or, if the backup that I made is in a HP proprietary format, how to convert it to a "general" backup format, which eanbles me to restore the backup on another (non HP) PocktPC.

    Anyone??

Thanks in advance for letting me see "the light"

    Cheers

Your CF Backup from your 548 contains programs written for the SH3 processor. Any PPC2002 device you buy will be an ARM device, and those old programs will not be compatible.

Data files from the Jornada should be fine on the new unit, but I am not aware of any way to selectively restore JUST the data files from the HP CF Backup file.

Hopefully you still have the sync'd "My Documents" folder on your host desktop PC. Then you could restore your critical data files from their once you set up a relation with the new PPC device.

I don't think your CF card contains anything you can use EXCEPT on another Jornada 54X device.
