Default 5915: Cannot Connect With WPA Enabled

I've spent all of last night and the bulk of today (Saturday) trying to get my new 5915 (received yesterday) to setup for my wireless network. I've run iPaq Setup assistant probably about 473 times now. Every time, it gives me a "Configuration error" in which it states "Bad XML." I was able to get a look at the Wi-Fi.xml file and it does have my network key in there, but I still get the error, and I cannot get it to connect to my wifi. I even dropped all security just to see if it would connect at all and it did without a problem. Yet when I reenabled WPA-PSK it wouldn't connect.

I have entered the 63-digit key about 97 times and yet it will not connect. I would like to think that at least one of those times I got the key right, but since it only shows asterisks and you are typing with the tiny on-screen keyboard, maybe I DID enter it wrong all 97 times.

Also, I transferred my key from my PC to the iPaq via a Word doc, but apparently it doesn't allow you to paste the key?

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing to finally connect WITH WPA security? As a GPS it is awesome, and it has great potential as a PDA, but if it can't connect to my wifi, it is useless in that regard.

Also, I spent almost an hour on a chat with an HP tech named "Adam" today who was absolutely useless!

Additional: I can see it listed in my router's "Attached Devices" but it doesn't show an address, nor does it ever get one.

YAU (Yet Another Update): I now have WEP access from a second router I run for devices that don't support WPA that I prefer to keep turned off (using an X10 switch to turn off and on as needed). I still would rather have WPA security as I will soon have all devices that are WEP-only connected to the WPA router via cable.

So .. can anyone confirm that the rx5915 WILL connect using WPA security? Based on my experience, I would say that it does NOT support WPA! Sure, you can set the WPA settings in the configuration screens 3,743 times or until you're blue in the face, but WPA just does NOT work with this PDA! That's a shame because otherwise, the 5915 shows promise.

One other thing .. why can't this thing remember the network key between sessions? It seems like at the least .. every other time, I have to re-enter the stupid 21 character network key, and since it won't allow you to copy and paste the key from a text file, that is a MASSIVE P.I.T.A.!!

Perhaps try disabling all your advanced network security, and establish a connection/partnership/etc which distinctly creates a unique "MAC" profile for your iPAQ first. Once you're certain you have a connection, you can enable all the security layers and encryption protocols you like.

It might not work, but it's never a bad idea to reduce your approach into fundamental steps.

It's actually always listed in "attached devices" of my WPA router. It just never gets an address.

As to disabling: It has no problem connecting to an unsecured network. It's when I re-enable encryption that it can never get an address from the WPA router.

I've had simular issues getting 5915 to connect at work. We use WPA with LEAP. My laptop uses the Odyssey client (Funk Software), and I got ahold of the PPC version but for some reason, I can't seem to get it to acknowlege my connection. I was able to verify a few times, but i was getting a bogus IP from the DHCP server. Like you said...not sure if it's 100% WPA compliant and that's why I'm having the problem. After a few attempts, I gave up. At home, I'm only using WEP on my router, and that connects just fine.

    grrrr...

I am having major problems trying to connect with a Netgear DG834G wireless router. the IPAQ see it but will not connect to it. The router uses WPA encryption and I have entered in the code but to no avail. router is OK wireless wise

Actually having connection problems with USB, Wlan neither will work. I am using IPAQ setup Assistant (vers 1.0.4.0) and it does not find it. The computer sees that a USB device is present with Window (XP Pro) explorer and shows it as a mobile device but if I click on it there is nothing in the right hand window. Sort of like its there but its not. I have reinstalled IPAQ setup assistant 3 times now with the same results.

I will be ringing HP today to find out what I can do to sort this out

in the meantime any help available please?
