The ThinkOutside mouse and the HP keyboard shouldn't even require a driver as their profiles are supported by the hx4700 Bluetooth stack. Bluetooth supports up to seven simultaneous connections.
So it should work. I haven't done it yet though."Those that live by the spell-checker, dye by the spell-checker."

Actually, you do have to install a driver with the keyboard from HP. Even though the BT stack supports it, the iPaq still needs to know what the keyboard is telling it.Originally posted by Qoheleth

I know the same will be true with the mouse. The hx is going to have to know that the mouse is replacing the cursor for input that way. I'm sure it will work just fine, but it's not plug and play like a headset.FREE Flat Screen

Well, that's dissapointing.
The whole point of all that overhead with Bluetooth is so you don't have to install drivers for profiles that are supported. GPS doesn't work that way because it uses the generic serial port emulation but keyboards and mice are supposed to.
And people wonder why BT hasn't taken off like it was supposed to."Those that live by the spell-checker, dye by the spell-checker."

Yeah, it seems like it should be plug and play, but I wonder if it's because the keyboard driver takes 500KB and since it has to be loaded in main memory - there would be so many complaints of "why did hp waste 500KB of main main memory when I am never going to use the keyboard!!!" etc...Originally posted by Qoheleth

I was going to say the same thing. To have a BT Mouse working in our hx4700 you need a program or driver installed in your hx that understand what the mouse is doing
The same thing happens with the keyboard. You need to have a software to tell the hx that you are using an external keyboard and be able to set that external keyboard. So in both cases it's not just get a BT mouse and a BT keyboard and you are all set.

And they are not all compatible. The Think-Outside mouse driver appears to only work with their mouse (which is not released yet). I imagine the same is true with keyboards.

I get the fact that you need drivers for the mouse and keyboard. What I don't get is how that fits into the theory of Bluetooth. Bluetooth was supposed to dispense with all these additional driver requirements. When you support the HID profile, that means that your BT implementation is supposed to know how to react properly to devices including, but not limited to, mice and keyboards. The justification for the overhead the BT requires is that it does all that...
...but apparently, at least in this case, it doesn't.
The incompatibility of drivers is another dissapointement. I could see some small issues, pertaining to the special keys that some keyboards have and to the extra buttons that some mice have, but I'd hoped for something like the desktop experience where these devices would work with the generic driver but have enhanced functionality with their specific drivers.
Oh well."Those that live by the spell-checker, dye by the spell-checker."
