The damm thing is that I had ordered my hx4700 and I cannot back out now hence whether it is for better or for worst, I would let you all know when I get it. However I think that it should be okay as I am quite happy with my h1910 so far. Honestly, it can play betaplayer videos as smooth as my pc (with ATI Radeon 9800 Pro btw) and I can play nes and gbc games on it. Hence hx4700 should not be that far off.

The thing is that we can always say that something better is coming however I do not want to wait forever.

    Well...... just me......
Hukuju, don't misunderstand me I'm not bashing the Hx470x I think it's a great device and I think it's a great thing that you've pre-ordered it so that when you receive it you can comment on it fully! Really helps out us cheap bastards!

I'm just confused at what you see in 104Mhz more than what a 3D accelerator can give out of a PDA.

    Dear Bro Registered,

Please kindly do not worry man........ for me, I never had an device with the 3D accelerator hence I do not see the value of having one.

I would try to review the unit when I get it however I think that pdagold might write some good article with benchmark on it soon.

    Well..... that's me again.

Now that just doesn't make any sense. That's like saying you don't see the value in having a Lamborghini over whatever car you have now (assuming you don't have a Lamborghini or car better than). If fact, by that logic, technology might aswell just stop advancing since no one can "see the value" of having technology greater than what they have now without actually owning it. Goodbye electronics, hello wooden clubs and stone wheels.

No that bad my friend, the thing is that I do not think that the 3D accelerator would not be that useful in the ppc now as not that many games and application support the usage of it.

Besides, a more powerful core processor is more desirable to me.

We had been on this issue long enough, may i please suggest that we move on please.

Um, I think you made a typo with the double negatives? Which would indicate that you think a 3D accelerator WOULD be useful, which is not what you argued. Of course not many (if any) applications and games support it now as NO DEVICE CURRENTLY USES IT. Of course everything that is anything that can utilize it in the future probably will.

Besides, a more powerful core processor is more desirable to me.
You still have not answered my question: Why?

Frankly, I'm starting to assume you don't have an answer and are just blindly taking side of the Hx470x against a device which does not yet even exist. You really do confuse me.

a graphics accelerator chip doesnt necessarily mean great performance. the 2215 had one and it wasn't exactly the top performer when it came to games. some pda's without accelerators benchmarked better than it. it all depends on what chip they'd use

    Dear Bro Registered,

Sorry for the grammer error. I had answered the question already however let's do it for one last time:

    1) Faster processor, more widely used in applications. Good.

    2) 3D graphics accelerator, less widely used. Good for video playback. However beta player makes everything quite good for video playback even on my h1910. Hence not that good.

Now, the situation is that we have to choose between:

    a) A730, Dell VGA, Toshiba e830 and others all got 3D accelerators but slower processor.

    b) hx4700 got the fastest processor of the whole lot now.

Hence I choose hx4700. It is as simple as that.

I sincerely hope that I had answered your question. Please kindly let me off the hook now and let's move on with the discussion.

    Thank you.

A730 has no video accelerator (an official comment from Asus). Dell will have 2700G, e830 ? ATI Imagion. I?ve no information about LOOX 720 (maybe ATI, or only onboard XScale)?

PXA27? will be easily Overclockable as well as PXA25? and PXA26x.

    Registered,

Since alot of what hukuju is doing is running game emulators then the benefits of the enhancements from a seperate graphics processor would be minimal at best because the program has to have been configured to use that power. Kinda like buying the latest ATI or NVIDIA cards to play solitare on your pc. they would not help that but it would help if he played games like Doom3 or any of the FPS games that do 3d rendering. Most emulators as far as I know, have to use a software approach to emulate graphics from another type of system and therefore are unaware of the extra capabilities of the onboard video, whether it be a PC or a PDA.

Just remebered that emulator makers for PCs are doing that but u have to have a pretty specifec video processor like a 3dfx card or use some kind of GL wrapper. Maybe someday when enhanced video on PDAs is more wide spread then things may get better with emulators and video on PDAs.
