    Default wm6

In typical fashion hp will not release an upgrade for the 6945. If one was daring and wanted to try an upgrade one their own where would one get the file?

It would have to be modified from one designed for another Pocket PC, and that's not a trivial task.

At the ery least you should wait until more WM6 upgrades are released. There are very few of them out there now.

I think it's closer to an impossible task for people like us. Microsoft won't even distribute it's WinCE source to HP, Dell, and the others - I suspect that they compile the code themselves and "work with" the PDA manufacturers about only as far as creating the necessary device-specific hardware driver components (for buttons, blinky LEDs, battery monitoring, etc). That's why devices from HP and Dell etc all embed their "own" applets for managing things like Bluetooth.

Plus each WM6 ROM will include tons of stuff specific only to the device it was OEM installed in; sometimes specific to a subset within the same model, by region, language, or even serial number.

Even the independent ppl hard at work porting other OS platforms onto PDAs often take months and months before being successful.

There aren't any universal WM6 upgrades. You may be thinking of unofficial upgrades for the HTC Universal, which is a specific model of Pocket PC phone. But there aren't any "generic" WM6 packages.

As far as I'm aware, there are no Windows Mobile 6 ROMs that will work for the iPaq 6945s, and you're highly unlikely to find a ROM for another device that doesn't result in the iPaq being nonfunctional.

I *think* (maybe incorrectly) that the 6900s are a product evolution of the rx3700s ... if so, there is a fair chance that the BIOS/hardware elements of the 3700's ROM could be transposed into a 6900. Coding at the ROM and OS level is pretty involved and by no means a trivial fix; the countless (productive) contributors at places like xdadevelopers and handhelds.org usually take months and months to engineer a new OS ROM for each given device.

Of course, there's no WM5 or WM6 ROMs for the 3700 (that I know of), so even on the small chance that I'm correct this really wouldn't be too useful.
