HP iPAQ h5555 WPA-PSK TKIP Connection
I acquired a used HP iPAQ h5555. It seems to run fine once the battery was charged and seems to be clean (no extra files or config), just like after a hard reset. It is installed with "Pocket PC 2003 Premium" and has an internal WLAN that shows as "iPAQ USB Wireless Adapter" in the Network Adapters list. The driver is vnetusba.dll. I have a 2-Wire Gateway that is configured to support both 802.11b/g and WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK (at the same time) and I have a mix of other systems using both WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK.
I installed the WPA support BIOS (SP27674), WLAN Firmware (SP27605) and WLAN Driver (SP28615) from HP downloads. The levels were all verified in the Asset Manager after the installs.
When the WLAN settings are cleared and the unit soft reset, you get the Network Icon bubble at start up that prompts for a key. I have done this many ways, putting the WPA passphrase into the bubble prompt and later using the "Configure Wireless Networks" (Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Network Card > Wireless). No matter how I reset and redo it, the AP connection goes to the Connected state but I can't use IE and have used vxIPConfig to verify there was no WLAN IP. If you select the AP name and get into "Configure Wireless Network" and then the 802.1X tab, the "Use IEEE 802.1 network access control" checkbox is checked and greyed out. The "EAP type" normally defaults to PEAP, but I have tried "Smart Card or Certificate" and "LEAP" in the many attempts.
Just to get absolute documentation, I have cleared the WLAN settings and soft reset. After a few seconds, the Network Icon appears and a bubble titled "Multiple Networks Detected". I set the radio button for my WLAN and for Work (options are The Internet and Work), then tap Connect. I then get a bubble titled "Network Key" and enter the WPA Passphrase (26 hex characters, lowercase alpha) and tap Connect. Up pops another bubble titled "Incorrect Network Key" and if I reenter the same Passphrase, I get the same "Incorrect Network Key". If I just tap Connect without entering a key, the bubble and the Network Icon go away.
If I check the AP in the Wireless Settings, it is Available, not Connected. Going to Wireless Settings and selecting the AP, WPA-PSK and TKIP are verified and I enter the WPA Passphrase. 802.1X check box is checked, but greyed out and EAP Type is PEAP. If I tap Properties under the EAP Type, a bubble with "Warning Cannot log on to the wireless network. The network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you.". If I then go back to the AP list and tap Connect on the AP, it goes Connected in a few seconds. The Wireless LED alternates orange and green. vxIPConfig does not show an IP for the VNETUSBA1 adapter. No trace of a connection shows on the AP.
I have searched the web and read dozens of hits. I have mucked around in the Registry and found no solution. One hit suguested there might be a SoftPaq that did not install 802.1X support that would be better for non-802.1X WLANs, but I did not find anything supporting that on the HP website. I had a thought that the WPA Passphrase I am using on the AP and all the other working WPA/WPA2 ssytems is not understood by the PPC. Got any ideas?
I have hard reset again and had to reinstall the WLAN Driver and FW to get back to where it was, but still the same behaviour.

That link does not seem to take me anywhere useful. I gives a page with "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
